Day 56: Twin Pines Restaurant (Early Afternoon)

May 12, 2011 11:48

Having spent almost the entire morning in the cold, Edgar finally decided it was time to address his groaning middle. It was hard enough to focus as he thumbed through the coupon book without his stomach doing flips: he was shivering, but still felt tremendous heat radiating from within him. The attempt at a nap on a park bench hadn't helped his ( Read more... )

The pet shop, as random of a stop as it might have been, had certainly expanded Guy's understanding of this planet, even if it was only in regards to the animals here. It had been nice to clear that up, since he didn't want to leave this place thinking that it was overrun with nothing but rotting monsters that might have once been living creatures. Not that he'd assumed that. But it gave him a better picture of this strange planet, and that was what mattered.

But he'd gotten to a point where his hunger was becoming difficult to ignore, and so Guy had decided to go in search of the Twin Pines restaurant, knowing that it was on one of the side streets. He'd also come up with an idea for what to do with the rest of his money, which was getting some tough leather (maybe from the hardware store) so that he could make himself a sheath.

That relied on also getting his hands on a proper needle and thread -- and he'd need something strong -- but he was hoping he could find all of that at the institute in one way or another. He was a high ( ... )

Throughout the day, Battler was quickly learning to tell the difference between the patients and the residents of the town. Not because he'd seen anyone around-he hadn't been here quite long enough to really recognize anyone, especially because of those uniforms-but because of all the wary glances. It wasn't just him. The people weren't outright rude, but it was easy to see that they weren't quite welcome here. Was that because they were outsiders, or because of their supposed conditions? ... He really couldn't tell, but it was an unpleasant feeling either way. Not just the avoidance, but that no matter where he went it almost felt like he was being quietly evaluated for whatever he did or didn't do. It wasn't like he was going to do anything, was it....? He sighed quietly to himself, not really used to this sort of treatment. He guessed for now, he could only really stick to people who didn't seem to mind either way ( ... )

A bowl of pasta sounded like it might hit the spot, though Guy could also never say no to fish. Fish wasn't particularly filling, though, and it would be a while until dinner. Hmm...

When he realized that someone was approaching, Guy had figured it would be the waiter bringing him his hot chocolate, but instead he was faced with a red-haired young man who was asking to join him. Guy didn't recognize him, but he couldn't imagine one of the townspeople would have made such a bold move. He was supposedly dangerous, after all. They all were.

"Ahh, of course not," he said with a smile as he gestured across the booth. "My name's Guy Cecil. It's nice to meet you." In truth, that remained to be seen, but it was rather rare for him to meet someone here who he actively disliked. Sync was an exception. And as for that Dahlia girl, at least it seemed like she'd disappeared.

And, even if he had had his reservations (which he didn't), manners were manners.

.... Well, that had gone well enough. Unlike the previous day, where every conversation seemed to be taking strange twists, today seemed to be shaping up much better. He could almost pretend that things were normal, even though that was far from the case. It was hard to relax completely knowing that, but at least for now, he felt like he could let loose a little ( ... )

It had gotten later than he'd had thought by the time the Doctor made his way towards Twin Pines for lunch, but the Doctor couldn't say he was disappointed. Talking to Peter had been important, after all, and well.... That shack still intrigued him, but his stomach had been beginning to protest.

The change in temperature after being outside for so long was nice. The Doctor took a moment to enjoy it before someone came by to seat him; he was escorted to a booth and settled in, removing his gloves but not his coat. That could stay on a while longer.

He picked up a menu and started scanning it, but nothing in particular jumped out at him today. It wasn't long before a waitress came, and he held out his coupon to her. "I'll be using this," he said, folding the menu closed. "Something warm to drink, and whatever you'd recommend."

The Doctor had started inspecting his other coupons while waiting for his meal-maybe he should have found Donna to give her the beauty ones... He looked up when a voice asked if the other seat was taken, and lit up when he saw it was England.

"No; it's not taken at all. Have a seat!" he said hurriedly, grinning at the man (country?) and gesturing towards the place in question. "It'll be nice to have some company for lunch. Alright?"

England looked like he was faring well, but there was no telling what kind of bandaged injuries might be hidden under clothing; the dull ache in the Doctor's arm and leg served as a reminder to that.

The morning had been busily spend and, surprisingly enough, not entirely unproductive. Brainiac 5 was almost disappointed to realise that he needed to take a break from more interesting things in order to find something to eat. If the situation in the institute was unchanged from his first few weeks here, he might have even followed his instinct of losing himself in work-related activities instead, but considering what his meals had been like yesterday, he'd much prefer something more... palatable ( ... )

Brainiac 5 smiled immediately as Peter spun around to face him; apparently he'd been needlessly concerned that Peter was busy after all. Then the other boy rushed forward and before he could quite process what was happening, Peter's arms were around his shoulders and his roommate was hugging him. Peter was hugging him and Brainiac 5 was at a complete loss as of what to do, so it was probably for the best that Peter released him a moment later, otherwise it would have been painfully obvious that he wasn't sure how to react to the gesture.

Instead, the Coluan cleared his throat awkwardly and instead attempted to focus on what had apparently brought this on-- ah.

"Oh, he did? I must not have noticed him in the dark..." he mused, briefly distracted. "But it's not a big deal, Peter. I'm fine now."

After wandering around for what felt like hours, Bella was finally forced into the restaurant by the vampire who she was currently traveling with. ... Even though she protested ( ... )

Edward was curious, but he wasn't yet suspicious. His brow crinkled with some confusion at her expression, knowing that it wasn't exactly an "I'm not hungry" look. He could see the interior of the restaurant just past his fiancee's head - who had stopped immediately in the entrance - and thought it wasn't exactly the most upstanding place he had been in, it wasn't really for his benefit, either. Besides, with only fifteen dollars to his name, he couldn't exactly protest about anything.

"What are you worried about?" he asked, pressing close to her side. He wasn't going to push her in, of course, but Edward was well aware of how stubborn Bella could be when she was protesting something. Frankly, even with medical degrees, it was still beyond him to remember when and how many times a human needed to eat.

And the thought that she would be afraid to eat had never crossed his mind.

"It feels like you're shaking. Are you sure you're not hungry?" So he was a little suspicious. The fact that she hadn't eaten anything in his sight for a ( ... )

What are you worried about? It was like he could read her mind, truly. His words froze her, and even though she could feel him next to her, she ... hoped he couldn't feel what she was feeling. Thankfully, he wasn't like Jasper. "I ... " she began, looking down. How could she tell him? Would he be mad? Worried? Probably worried and mad at the people in charge, but ...

Finally, Bella moved away from the door, pressing herself against the wall, her eyes cast down at the floor, arms limp by her sides. So perhaps she was shaking a little bit. Still, it ... wasn't enough to be worrisome, right?

Edward has more than one medical degree, you doof. He knows these things.

"I'm scared," she told him in a soft, cracking voice. "I ... I think the reason I stopped ... being able to feel pain that night was ... because of the food we were given that night. What if the food really is bugged? Or ... or poisoned? what if I eat again and it happens again? Or something worse? Who knows what could happen! Things are so different now ( ... )

Remaining out in the cold, even to talk with someone as interesting as Castiel, had not been a good plan. The day dragged on and the snow only grew thicker. The wind also increased, and Aigis' yellow jacket did little to cut its chill. Aigis also found her stomach aching for food, which didn't make the trek through the snow any easier ( ... )

She presented the coupon to one of what she was increasingly certain were game constructs, or non-player characters. Living, breathing, capable of rudimentary conversation, but each posted to a station, blithely unconcerned with the fact the world had ended. This wasn't Earth; it could have been, if time shenanigans were involved, but it was distinctly lacking in giant billboards proclaiming the date. If Sburb's designers, whoever they were, had pulled that trick, it had gone unheralded by clarion call of their self-absorbed trumpets was nowhere to be heard.

There was only one table occupied by a solo player, a girl a few years older than herself, red-nosed and sniffly. Rose stopped by the booth, but didn't sit down. She would need to garner an invitation for that; the urgency of their quest didn't necessitate the disposal of all the proper forms.

"Hello?" She tried to think of a good way to ask Are you one of us, or am I wasting my time? Again. Nothing sprang to mind, but it would be obvious fairly quickly. "I'm finding ( ... )

Aigis was a little surprised when a girl younger than she was used to seeing in the institute came up to her table. She blinked at the strange, almost questioning greeting. And then the next question had her tilting her head, wondering what the younger girl may have heard already ( ... )

The girl's answer was so painfully thorough and straightforward that Rose wondered if she'd been mistaken in assuming she was a fellow patient. It had all of the inflection of a pre-recorded voice message, pulling pieces from a library to make a recognizable answer.

As painfully over-earnest embroidering of language went, Rose Had Heard Worse. This utterance was merely a pittance against the window of the house that the trolls had dwelt in ( ... )
