[from here]S.T. switched on his flashlight as he started down the stairs. The torches flickered, and they were sitting ducks. Not tripping over his own shoelaces would be a plus

"Seen that one," Indy commented to Taylor on his way down the stairs. "In the ruined town to the east of the compound. I don't recommend it." Thinking about the minotaur still irked him, as much because they'd had so much trouble with it as because it shouldn't've existed in the first place. He, Lunge and Ryuuzaki were lucky the night had ended when it did.
He was all for that kind of luck, but continued progress would be nice too. Indy led the way toward the first door to their left, across the room from the door they'd entered last night.
It didn't look like Jones was interested in grabbing another candle, although Harvey couldn't blame him after last night. Granted, the fact that he'd almost burned himself twice had actually helped them solve that sphinx's riddle, so maybe it would have been a good idea to take one again

Freaky mutant powers? Indy'd heard a little about Peter's (mostly climbing up walls, as far as he knew), but last he'd checked, Pilgrim didn't have any, unless you counted a near-superhuman ability to remain doggedly enthusiastic in lousy circumstances. Maybe there were special powers involved in fighting vegans, Indy thought dryly.
If they were picking teams, Indy's first thought was Dent. After working together so many times, Indy was certainly more comfortable with him than with Taylor or "Depth Charge." Convenient, then, that Taylor had invited Depth Charge, and Scott knew Taylor. That left Dent, Peter, and Indy himself.
They'd made it down here in good time again; he was impatient to find out what was behind the other door. He didn't waste any time in making the suggestion. "What about you three and us three," Indy said to the group in general, gesturing to indicate what he meant.
A few short steps was all it took, and then their vision was filled with high ceilings and moody candlelight, all fancy grandeur and spectacle. It didn't have quite the same effect the third time you made it down there. By this point, all Depth Charge could figure was that this place was just one big elaborate ego-booster for Landel; some people got hot-rod paint jobs, others upgraded to the latest sports models, he built an enormous deathtrap under his psycho prison and filled it with 'ambiance', which seemed to be the fancy new buzzword for 'enough tension to make Rattrap pop a hubcap

"Aside from the ability to sniff out a fart in a windstorm? No dice." Landel's flunkies had turned a delicate, sensitive instrument into a squalling feedback loop. The chocolate on his own breath, antibiotic (or the oily smell of the petroleum-based carrier), evaporating wax, and the minor impurities in the Doyleton Unincorporated Regional Water Collection area had all made the Final Four

-- and then with a gush of nausea they stumbled into a place where the air itself felt different. Colder, damper, a little heavier -- hopefully they had indeed ended up where they wanted to go.
Sasuke snapped the hand that held both swords into a defensive position as quickly as he could -- as unwieldy as it was to carry anything that way, it was better to be armed at all in case there was something in here. Sharingan spinning for a second (and the drain of it a familiar frustration; why last night and not tonight?), he scanned the room.
Empty of enemies, which was a good thing, but also evidently empty of the others he'd hoped to meet already here. Perhaps they'd been earlier than he thought, or it simply took that much time to get to the basement each night.
Next time, he intended to use the ring for everyone he was travelling with, Aidou's reluctance or not.
Apparently he'd been wrong about arriving before the others. A look of surprise crossed Sai's face for a moment, but it was gone soon after as he made his way toward the familiar faces. They were ninja. The fact that they didn't leave much trace of themselves on the way in was simply a testament to their skill.
In truth, he was glad to be back with the others now. While he was fully capable of leading a party, he did far better in the role of follower. This had been proven time and time again. Not to mention he had no idea of what was going to happen from here on out. They'd collected the items that were apparently necessary to get beyond the doors, but what then? Another test, hadn't the creature said?
He nodded to Sasuke, letting the others know that he was ready to proceed when they were. "Hello, Sasuke. Sakura."

It had taken longer than the outer routes would have, but eventually Brook and Sai were down the stairs to the ballroom. Brook could only assume that Sakura and Sasuke's presence there meant they had taken another route or else had gotten a remarkably early start to their own trip down.
"I hope you two didn't have any difficulties on the way here?" he questioned first to be fair as his attention looked around for the last of their group. That blond woman was not yet there, though he did not know if that was supposed to be the case. He was content not to be as in the know as the ninja but could worry just as well when he didn't know what was going on. He was still a bit confused as to why they had returned to the basement in the first place, though he could bet it had something to do with what Sakura had gotten the night before.
The strange sensation as they were transported from one place to another in the blink of an eye was a strange one, that was for certain. It took a moment or two for her to gain her bearings when they arrived, assess the situation, their location, and any possible enemies that might get in their way

The entrance into the ballroom was much higher than that of the closet, but after falling over a fair amount of trees, building edges, volcanoes and ships, it was about time Sync learned some kind of technique for landing. And land he did, crouching so that most of the fall could be absorbed by his feet before his knee pressed into the ballroom's floor. The bout of nausea that was becoming more familiar hit him like a wave, but he quickly recovered before he proceeded to his next move.
Out of reflex more than anything, the God-General immediately threw his arms out and caught the other teen. The last thing he needed was for Erika to gain some sort of concussion before they even got started. For all he knew, that could trigger that annoying paranoia she was giving off last night.
Surprisingly, Erika hadn't put two and two together and realize that the fall from the ballroom would be much, much higher than simply falling into a room. Although she didn't scream, the detective's eyes widened and she reached out, trying to find anything to break her fall
( ... )
In return, Sync only smirked when Erika pushed him away to rearrange her clothing. He was used to taking up thankless jobs, so as long as the latter did her part then he couldn't care less if she actually appreciated his efforts.
"Already on it." Just as he said this he leaned over, sliding a portion of his forearm over the blade of the katana she'd drawn out. Almost immediately blood began to leak from the wound, and he was quick to catch a drop into the shattered jewel of the ring. What came next was just what he'd expected, the stone reforming itself until there was no trace of it ever being broken.
With their efforts successfully proven, there'd be no need for them to ever endure the tedious trip to get to their destination.

This time he was prepared.
