And ... the stairs. Bella couldn't help but peek up at the darkness as she moved slowly up the stairs, saving all of her energy for when she reached the second floor. She didn't want to leap up the stairs and have to catch her breath without even having done anything. That would have sucked.

Even so, he couldn't resist looking for a little bit of hope in that last part, just as his partner's shadow vanished up into the darkness, out of the gleam of his flashlight. That sort of sounded like he was trying to look out for him really, didn't it? Like he was just trying to protect him, even if he personally didn't think he needed it so much? Oh, well. It was definitely nicer to think of it that way even if he was fairly sure that wasn't the case, so he didn't question it any more than he had to. Didn't want to question it any more.
He kept on Sechs' back as they reached the final steps; the door was already open, so hopefully that meant there wouldn't be any nasty surprises waiting to jump out at them the second they stepped out. They'd see them, right? Just in case, he swung his flashlight from left to right, keeping his eyes peeled for a stray tail or claw or snout.

Standing in the doorway, Sechs carefully stretched his neck out into the hallway, his eyes focusing hard into the darkness. He was really wishing he had his own flashlight then, as his body began reacting to the painful memories of the second floor. The worst things that have ever happened to him in the institute took place in these halls. The Replica's heartbeat hastened with excitement and dread, his skin began to perspire and his spine slowly frosted up inside. The fear was worsening Sechs' already bad mood, and having Kibitoshin suddenly wave the flashlight about from behind didn't help either.
Aggravated, Sechs turned on Kibitoshin with a snarl. "Watch where you swing that thing! Geeze!" he growled, blinking against the erratic light. "I said keep it steady! We gotta look out for monsters, not attract them with all that flashing!"
Another gruff sigh and Sechs entered the hall outside, "C'mon..."
