Nightshift 52: Disciplinary Therapy Corridor

[ from here ]Naturally, the corridor Erika found herself in was devoid of activity. Tonight wasn't the night for sleep studies, which meant Erika could work undisturbed. Or so she thought. As if forgetting she was in the middle of explaining her theory about this board to Stephen, the detective immediately went to the nearest door and jiggled the ( Read more... )

"... Basically," Erika looked to be quite in a good mood up until Stephen spoke. It was pretty clear that he didn't believe her entirely, and while she logically didn't present enough evidence to make this theory solid... well, she couldn't say she liked that. On the contrary, it looked like her mood had darkened entirely, a sour look crossing her features as she looked balefully at the locked doors. If only she could get those open... She had an idea of what would be within and it would definitely add enough credibility to her theory. Since she more or less blatantly called testimony worthless, she had to rely on hard evidence to get her point across, and that meant opening the damn door.

Luckily for Erika, when she looked back at Stephen, she saw that he was now holding... ah.

"Oh, it's one of those." Those rings that the radio and the good doctor had been making such a big fuss over. Erika only had a vague idea of what they were supposed to be used for, so the opportunity to actually try it out was enough to ease her mood slightly. And lucky for her, Stephen was offering to show her.

Of course, Erika didn't trust him immediately. The ring's effects seemed to be unknown to him as well since he said he wanted to test it out, and that meant he didn't want to be the only one who would suffer it's effects. Stephen was lucky that Erika was having such a hard time finding one of those rings, or else she might have refused. Instead, she grabbed his arm rather roughly and nodded.

"Go ahead."

"So you've heard of them." Not that it was much of a surprise considering how quickly word seemed to spread in this place. However, the response itself was somewhat ambiguous, coupled with the fact that they were still lingering in the darkness, and so he wasn't able to catch the latter's body language accompanying her response. However, considering she complied regardless and gripped (rather roughly, though he was far too used to rough treatment) his arm, satisfied him.

Because, no, he didn't feel like venturing to uncharted territory alone; not while he was handicapped like this. If something was going to happen to him then he was going to make sure that he dragged someone down as well. Call it a hard habit to break.

He waited for a moment to see if Erika planned to grip him any tighter before delivering a quick blow to the nearby wall, the jewel easily shattering beneath the force. Almost instantly he felt the rush of vertigo he'd once experienced those nights ago, before everything was engulfed in darkness.
