OK. It is now 5:20 PM. I was going to leave work at 4:30 PM, after we updated some items. The client has yet to approve (U.S. client, not a long weekend for them). It has to be live by tomorrow at the latest, and I will be unavailable all weekend as I will be at KeyCon. The client is not answering ANY of our calls, so we do not yet have approval which means we have to stay a while longer, which blows.
It's worse for me, because I am the only person here right now who has the authority to login to the server and launch the items. We cannot just do it via an interface because there are some custom items which must be launched alongside this. SO as soon as it is down there, it's live, and we cannot make it live without approval. Catch-22, no? (Oh, did I mention that this is not my project, but I have to stay as I am the only one with the permissions to launch?)
So what do we do for this LOVELY long weekend? I am turning my Blackberry off. I am not available by email, and I am leaving my laptop at home and not taking it to the hotel. I have my cell, but that is it. If people don't like this, tough. I have worked my butt off this week since both other project managers are at a conference in Florida, so I covered multiple roles, and the VP Of my department is planning to move to Vancouver so he was not in a lot this week as he had preparations there. So, it was just me. And I am tired. And cranky. And don't want to be here.
