I wish I was coming on here and posting another happy diatribe about post releationsip angst and healing through hatred but I am sad that I am here today with less of a post and more of a eulogy for my lil fuzzy buddy Raven whom died late last night. For some of you whom did not know Raven was a stray cat I took in and have been carring for going on a year now , I know that a year is not much time in these flash in the pan days ....but I bonded with that cat , she and I had a bond that transended a typical animal / owner bond .... we were freinds. When I laid on the yard bleeding and burnt (from god knows what and how) she laid there beside me and licked at my wounds as if trying to heal them herself.
Late last evening I heard the sounds of a battle outside in the back yard and I went to see what was going on , it was then I saw deep back near the start of the woods I saw a pack of 4 large dogs engaged in a fight with Raven ... I dashed out as fast as I could but before I could full get there I saw one the dogs snap at and lock it's jaws onto Raven , I ran with all my will and got there to chase the dogs away ...yet it was to late. I dropped down to my knees and saw that her slick and glossy black fur was matted down and coated in blood ..... and a huge gash was open in her throat and side .... worst of all , she was not moving. I begged and pleaded , hoping she would still be alright but just injured ....but to my worst fears she was already dead or at least dying. The dogs tried to come back up while I was there , growling and barking at me ... what to me was the "lead" dog still had Raven's blood on it's muzzle ..... I nearly blacked out from the rage growing within me and something must have spooked the dogs because they all took off running like Satan himself was nealing before them .... at that moment , they may have been correct. It was a few moments after that I discoverd what I belive was the reason Raven fought the whole pack herself , about 3 feet away underneath the barn I discoverd abut 5 small newborn kittens and what looked like there full grown mother , it's leg injured and could not stand up.
That was Raven for ya , she fought and died trying to protect innocent kittens and a injured mother from facing the same fate , ..... she gave her life so that they may live ..... I am proud to call her my cat. I decided to give Raven a proper burial and took her to the back of the woods behind where I live and dug a small grave for her , creating a makeshift crusifix that I drove into the ground beside her.
I have today taken the mother and her kittens to a nearbye animal shelter so that in case the dogs return they will not be in danger .... they are going to take good care of them all.
R.I.P RAVEN ...... MAY YOUR SACRIFICE NEVER BE IN VAIN
