LONG philosophical post to prove that this weekend wasn't all fun and games

A few months back I mentioned a book that I had read that I felt was a good basis for becoming and being a Peer.  That book is Becoming a Person of Influence by John C. Maxwell.  What follows is my first “takeaway” from that book and homework for my protégés.

It is common both within an Order and among those not yet recognized to talk of “PLQs” or ( Read more... )

peerage - integrity

My pleasure! There will be more about subsequent sections of the book in the coming weeks. And, yes, we do need to sit down and chat!!

I definitely need to put that book on my wish list.

Developing my ethical/moral center and personal integrity has been a work in progress. I wouldn't mind speaking with you about this sometime too. It would be interesting.

Recently, I've been paging through When, Why... If, which is Robin Woods' book on ethics. (It's written from a pagan perspective, but its basic message translates well to the nonspiritual/religious side.) It's a nice reminder to be mindful of my actions and their possible consequences.

That would be awesome! I've bought copies of the other book for each of my proteges, so you may be able to borrow it from Mike until he has time to read it ;-)

What a wonderful thought provoking missive. I would dearly love to read more from you. Would it be all right if I friended you? I would also like to be able to pass your words along to others if you don't mind. I have been thinking of medieval philosophy myself and although I have been studying the medieval lists of obligatory almsgivings of the aristocracy, (the seven obligatory almsdeeds of the physical nature as well as the seven spiritual almsdeeds), and I find your post fits in quite nicely with my own thinking on the qualities of the aristocracy.

I don't mind at all if you friend me. Many of my posts are locked because they are far more personal, but anything along these lines will be public. Friend away :-)
