C'mon Spring, spring dammit!

Yesterday was a lot of running around. I'm not working as many hours as I've promised, and it is worrying me. Distractions are hard to ignore. And yesterday I had to drive Cantropos to work, vote in the local elections, and do the grocery shopping.  I did get all those things done though.

I did some thinking yesterday. Two Christmases ago, I changed ( Read more... )

It's never clicked together in my mind before, but I just realized that on my LJ friends-list, I've got you - dame_grise, and another person who calls herself the Gray Lady - although she uses that name mostly on a non-LJ journal. Funny that I never noticed the overlap there.

If you find a "theme" you like, many of them have options for changing the colors - you might even be able to change the colors on the one you have, if you like the rest of its features. Also, if there's a theme you like, but there's just something small about it that you want different, but for which there isn't an option listed, it may be possible to change it with the "Custom CSS" option. If you have a question if something is possible with a particular theme, feel free to ask me. With mine, that's how I am able to have 2 different fonts for different parts.

The features I like and use on my currently layout are being able to display a link list, having my tags displayed, and I really like having a next/previous link at the bottom. What I miss is a banner/header picture. I'd also like to up my default text size for me because I can't see for crap sometimes. I don't know if this will make my entries have bigger font on friend's page.

I really am kind of clueless about LJ layouts. I worked my tail off for over a month doing really minor tweaking to one of my roleplay journals, and I still don't have the header picture centered properly. I got what I did get by adding invisible space around the picture, and it was too annoying to keep running back and forth to the computer that had the image editor program to try a 3rd or 4th time to get the spacing right.

The idea kind of is what I was lamely explaining about witch=assertive. I just can't decide on which witch or something general. (I am horrible at this kind of decision making for some reason.)

From what I remember seeing, I believe all S2 themes allow you to display a link list, and have the next/previous link at the bottom (unless some of them have next/previous on the side or only the top, maybe). The text size can be controlled with Custom CSS, if not in the theme's options. Changing your journal's text size and style will not affect how other people see your entries on their own friends page, it will just affect how your journal looks, and how your friends list looks.

Then I'll poke at the ones that allow pictures and see. I rediscovered Waterhouse paintings last night.

If that's the Waterhouse you mentioned then yeah, that's a great choice - except it's not easy to fit to a screen, being too tall for its' width (if you know what I mean). I saw it the first time on the cover of Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft by Guiley. I have a copy framed in my room and one taped on the inside door of my locker at work. Her profile reminds me of my dad's mother, though I doubt she was the model. (She did, however, pose for La Brune Odalisque by Boucher.)
You did mean John William Waterhouse, right? Because if you meant Matthew Waterhouse I have no idea.

There are few other nice ones. The Sorceress is more horizontal.

Not Adric. This icon is a Waterhouse.

Lady of Shalott - a poster of it hangs framed in my hall. Some like Monet, some like Klimt, others Waterhouse (and Boucher).
