Short little post because I haven't made one in a while and have a sort of amusing work story that I wasn't actually present for.
We've got two data centers in our building, both of which have one of those gas based fire suppression systems to go along with the standard sprinkler deal. You know, the ones with the big scary canisters that claim to be able to both smother out a fire AND also not kill you in the process if you somehow get trapped in there while it goes off? That stuff. Anyways, apparently the system on the 6th floor malfunctioned last night and released the gas for no obvious reason. This isn't the first time this has happened... but the other time was due to a mistake from the fire system guys when they were doing an annual test of the system.
Apparently a blew all the ceiling tiles in the room out when it went off. A coworker sent Annie a picture of it. It's pretty hilarious. Of course, we're (Operations, that is) somehow going to get in trouble for this happening in the end, I bet. Oh well. Kinda wish I could've seen it happen.
