Please forgive me for wanting to show off but I love our balcony. It's a large L-shaped thing with the narrow portion of it covered.
Moving in a clockwise circle outside the 'French' doors are these:
There is a gardenia which I don't have much luck with - still alive for nearly two years now (I pummel it with ferrous sulfate), a white jasmine on the wall, our new diplodenia which is loving the new trellis I added last week and a nightflower/night-blooming jasmine.
Next we have an orange rose, ficus, some lavender, mini carnations, a hanging spider plant and the pink rose.
Moving across there are some violets, some evergreen whose name I forget, an orange carnation, an amyrillis, the yellow rose, another amyrillis and another spider plant hanging from the poles to the tent.
On the left is a new rose with red-tipped yellow petals and fusia carnations. (not shown; the other conifer, more violets) The foreground includes more mini carns, more lavender and a variegated ficus. Back in the corner are red roses, the cilantro I planted which has germinated and yet more mini carns.
Here's Bobby, Maria's cat, enjoying a sunny morning.
The red rose two pictures above typically looks more like this.
Skipping past more violets and the other red rose we arrive at Vegetable Row. Here we see three jalepenos and a red chili - recovering from the winter, a green chili, two pots of red bell peppers and two tomato plants that were all started from seed this year at various points.
In the back of the above picture you can see this. It's a yellow jasmine that I threw on a trellis to block the view from a dining room door which, because it opens right into a poured support column for the building, does not allow us to put a curtain or blinds on.
Moving back out from under the overhang you'll find the grass I planted for the cats. It's a rye/fescue mix which has surprisingly survived the summer heat. Above is a hanging fusia.
Around that corner and now moving back to the living room doors are some parsley, some calla lilies we picked up this year, the final spider plant, a purple bouganvilla and a free petunia we got from our loving local 'nursery' owner. You can see on the right a cat house (no jokes now) in which the cats like to pass the (relatively) cooler summer mornings.
Just outside the door and next to the cat house is this nice little fountain we also picked up this year. The sound is wonderful.
