Well that's over a month of update slippage!
Plenty has been going this end pretty incessantly (hence the lack of update).
For the past three weeks I have mostly been living in Lincolnshire - Louth, to be precise. This has been a work-prompted exercise that placed pretty darned close to the East Coast of Albion (a scant 20 miles by my reckoning). I got sent over to our sister office to help out whilst they recruited a new project manager for the development programme over there. It has taught me how to blend quickly into a new organisation, learn their ways and problem solve at a rapid pace. It has also taught me that company expenses are a lordly thing that a chap could get too easily used to. Possibly linked to this realisation is the acquisition of knowledge that Louth has a fine range of excellent restaurants and eateries.
I'm now kinda working from both offices - which is interesting (with a slight note of the old Chinese proverb in that) - thankfully I have a small shared office to hide away from the world and scoff biscuits..and ahem... work as well of course! I seem to be undertaking an alarming amount of new staff induction - not to mention training project managers how to do their job... and i'm still a trainee myself! Cor blimey chief! Maybe this is something I should bring up at my impending Personal Development Review... I just need to think of a more convincing opening line than 'Pay Me More' whilst wielding a jaunty duelling blade...
I have now officially been with ESHA for a year (huzzah for full employment rights).
In hot off the press news - we think we might have the house sorted - the exchange is set for tomorrow - which means we should have the keys next week! Unfortunately some of the works are still to be completed (ie the damp) - but we have agreed a retention and aren't paying (or being held liable for) any rent over the period. At the latest we will be living there (and hence hosting a/some house warming party/parties) in six weeks' time! Huzzah!
If all goes well tomorrow (and gods willing, no spanners will try and leap into the works) we shall celebrate with a meal, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and booze - lots of booze (when i've driven us home of course!)
In other news - I have officially aged a full further year (Aharrr! The power of age flows through me!). I have mainly celebrated this fact by spending money on compy shinies (a 19" TFT monitor and games for a start) and going for a quiet meal in Leicester. I am consequently terribly, terribly addicted to Fable:The Lost Chapters - shame on me. I've also started playing Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth - its pretty darned creepy - the sanity system is particularly well conceived and followed through. I've yet to play the latter game with the lights out!
min_t and I have had a fairly quiet week in the Smallest County. My parents are currently off and about sunning themselves in the Algarve (alright for some). Its meant we've had some space to lounge and recoup energy after a lot of fast paced stuff in the past few weeks.
Anyhoo - onto great things like...um... sleep
