SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!!
We had a VERY stimulating and somewhat heated :) discussion regarding the purpose and the intent of Calypso's storm. In one sentence, the post that declared that her storm was anything but forgiving. It also left me with a question to ask everyone's opinion and thought, just like when I asked if you believed whethe Tia truly loved Davy Jones or not.
What, in your opinion, was the true PURPOSE of Calypso's storm, and what was she hoping to accomplish? As a goddess she did not have complete power over the men in action, from Davy Jones to Will Turner and Jack Sparrow or Elizabeth. She could only hope to guide events in a chain that would HOPEFULLY lead Will Turner to become the new Captain of the Dutchman. But she could not ultimately determine that it would come out that way. What if it had been JACK who stabbed the heart for example? What if Jones had taken his heart back?
The storm in my opinion (at first, yes, I thought the storm was purposeless because it clearly did nothing to hold off Beckett's Armada, nor did it assist the Brethren ships in anyway) bought together the two crucial ships and characters for the purpose of determining who would take over the Dutchman.
DID Davy Jones go to his death peacefully in her welcoming arms, or did he die coldly ( and that could be why the writers and filmmakers did not show Calypso's image welcoming him to the depths of the ocean when he fell...a purposeful 'cold death' without hope of redemption or her love?)
Also...what is your opinion on how Davy Jones 'knew' how to bind her in her bones? Did Tia tell him? Did he read about it in some magic book? Or did he sense her weakness somehow as to how she could have been captured?
