Over the weekend, I posted about
a switchplate I decorated for my bedroom. This one is for my office. I have a lot of vintage scrapbooks and photo albums and art in there, so I used a black tissue paper for the background, and a snapshot of a little girl on top of it, to simulate the look of an antique photo album with black pages. I figured if it had a vintage look, it would coordinate well with what I have on display. I had black construction paper that I could have used instead of the black tissue paper, but it seemed too thick to fold around the switchplate and get a smooth finish.
However, tissue paper is far too fragile. While I was trying to smooth out bubbles in the glue, I tore a hole in the tissue paper! Luckily, it was in a spot covered by the snapshot, so it worked out ok, but it still ended up looking a little crumpled. If I had had photocopying paper in black, I think that weight of a paper would have worked out perfectly.
Still, it was a good learning experience, and I'm mostly pleased with how it turned out. It looks like I have a new hobby ...switchplate decoration!
