I have moved on from wence I was, dear reader, to the sunny shores of Los Angeles. What I've found here may surprise some, may make some of you laugh, some of you cry, and some of you thinking of me far more poncy than I already am. You see, my uncle has lead me to an epiphany, found in the graceful arms of ballroom dancing.

Yes, ballroom dancing. But before I bugger on about this, let me start from the beggining.

After having no sleep the night before, I left Mexico City on a Friday. Many tears wear shed, and though they were not all from my side, I did contribute. I think more than other times, I shall miss many of my relatives. Still, I'm more determined than before to return to Mexico as soon as I'm capable.

Me and my uncle Alex arrived in LA at about 5:00, and by 5:45 we were checked into the Raddisson hotel five minutes from the airport. We were there becuase my uncle's dance school was having some workshops. We got dressed in tuxes, and off we went to the dinner.

I really enjoyed myself. The atmosphere was rather strange, to say the least. The classical example of special interest groups getting together. They are all about dancing, dancing, dancing. Dessert wasn't finished, and people were already up in the dance floor. What is wonderful is that everyone dances... no one is left behind. The event only went to midnight, but let me tell you that no matter wether people were 14 or 81, everyone danced pretty much every dance. It was very satisfying to watch.

Needless to say, I was a complete disaster on the dance floor!

However, many of the instructors took it upon themselves to teach me some moves, and although my capacity was limited, I did churn out a Cha cha cha, a rhumba, a waltz and a fox trot. It was all good fun.

Next day, was the workshops. I attended the rhumba one, and found it to be loads of fun. I was only a guest, so techincally I shouldn't have been dancing, but I guess I went unoticed. Quite a few people were surprised to see that I'd never danced before, and I was still keeping up, so that should say something good about me. I was still pretty attrocious, but not without redemption.

To cut a long story short, I just came back from my first "lesson". It was excilirating! I went first to an individual lesson, where I asked her to teach me the waltz and the foxtrot, so I learnt the basic steps. Then, in a group lesson, we did a bit more of the foxtrot. I know feel a little more capable of waltzing with someone!

I'm pumped.. and I hope to keep going with this when I get back. Should be good fun. I am not really hoping to get ballroom salsa dancing going.... not that I don't like it, but I prefer street latin. Basically, I want to have fun on the damn dance floor! But I would like to be able to do the Waltz to a reasonable level... since I figure that is the dance that I'm most likely to be asked to do at any sort of social function. I would also like to do the argentianian tango.... so that I could be like Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman".

Anyways, not much of a post... but if ever I should become the king of ballroom dancing, this might make a good little reminder!
