The Levittown: tract housing

May 14, 2009 09:18

In the late 1940s a building firm called Levitt and Sons began work on America's first mass produced suburbs -- four planned communities, each called Levittown. You know the type, all the houses have virtually the same floor plan, with minor cosmetic differences on the outsides. I threw together a few houses in this spirit.

The first is the Levittown A. This is meant to be one of the houses in its original form, with no alterations by residents.

Your typical suburban ranch home.

Here's the floorplan of the Levittown A:

There are 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, open living/dining area, kitchen and single stall garage. Sells for $34,215, includes counters, appliances, plumbing and lighting. No CC.

Next is the Levittown B. This one is meant to have been modified by someone.

Floorplan of the Levittown B:

The garage has been finished and turned into living space. This created room for a more formal dining area, larger kitchen and larger master bathroom. Sells for $39,037 includes counters, appliances, plumbing and lighting. No CC.

The Levittown C:

Floorplan of the Levittown C:

This time the rear porch was walled in to become the kitchen. The room that was formerly the kitchen is now a small bedroom/study. $33,846, again with just fixures.

The Levittown D:

I went a little silly with the roof on this one. It's getting hard to make them look different. :P

Floorplan of the Levittown D:

This time we've finished off the garage and made the front part into a home business area. I decorated it as a small bakery and it comes with those furnishings. The rear part of what was the garage is now the kitchen. Just as in the C version, The Room Formerly Known as Kitchen is now a small bedroom or study. $38,649 furnished with fixtures and the business furniture.

All houses contain no CC, I have all the EPs and Sps except Celebration Stuff.

I also built a template for both houses which is essentially just the original floorplan drawn out with walls and some fixtures. I left the outside walls unfinished and didn't build a roof so that I could repeatedly drop it in the hood and tweak it. I uploaded it on the off chance that someone might want it to add to the set with their own ideas.

If enough people are interested I'll do some more variations on this one. :)
