It had all come down to today, but the day had been lost. Katara sighed, looking back towards the horizon towards where all of their friends... And her father... had stayed behind. She squinted at something red she thought she saw moving through the clouds, but dismissed it as a bird. If it were a threat, she’d have seen much more than one.
Everyone was quiet, their loss and fatigue weighing down their tongues. It had been a long, hard day for everyone. At least everyone here was in decent health, and she’d already worked to heal the minor cuts and burns accrued during battle.
Katara rested against the edge of Appa’s saddle and closed her eyes a brief moment, resting and trying to find some comfort in the breeze as they flew. When she opened them what seemed like a moment later, she still felt the breeze of being high up.
To her dismay, steel and concrete held her up instead of the strength of the flying bison, and she saw a strange city stretching out below her. Katara leapt to her feet, glancing around atop the skyscraper. “Sokka?! Toph?! Haru?! Teo?!” She spun around as she looked at the ruins of the once great city.
“Aang! ...Where are you?!” The names and words echoed unanswered though the city sky.
With no reply, she shook her head in disbelief and headed towards the open door on the roof. From there she started making her way down to the street below.
