The broadsword he had retrieved the week before didn't need to be over his shoulder, but old habits died hard. He was used to his katana, and the lighter, smaller weapon was going to take getting used to. At

The East Villages area was nice, really. She tried to tell herself it was just a long vacation, that everything would be okay, something to stave off the despair and rage simmering inside her like a pot about to boil over. But the glittery stores weren't Times Square, the few withered clubs she'd visited weren't the wild night scene she knew, the subways were all closed due to crabs, and Thompkin's Square was no Central Park. Precious few tourists, and her sister was dead.
Fucking monster. Why'd She have to come here, of all places?!

She had mentioned losing someone. That was likely the cause. He knew full well the rage that came with losing those close to you. It was a dangerous thing. "You'd do well to let your pain loose while you don't have to fight."

Goofy wandered through the ruined streets, hoping that Sora, Donald, and the others were just around the next corner. This certianly didn't look like the Destiny Islands Ansem had shown them, and it wasn't anything like how Sora had described his home. Still, they had all been going to the same place, so they must be here somewhere. Goofy just had to trust that their hearts would bring them together again.
This place was really sad, but that meant Goofy just had to smile extra wide to make up for it. Still, he looked around with a trained eye, and clutched the trashcan lid that was serving as a makeshift shield. As captain of the guard it was his duty to be ready to protect this place from Heartless.
Instead of Heartless, however, when he turned the corner he saw a large park, where a read headed girl stood next to the unmistakable form of the Guardian Auron. Overjoyed to see the stoic warrior, Goofy raised a gloved hand, and said, "Ayuck, hi there Auron! Good to see you, what are you doing here?"

- and then she stopped. Took a step back. Rubbed her eyes once, twice. Not real, he's not real, he's not real he's not real not real not real not- Exaggerated doggy face. Not real. Large eyes. Not real. That infuriatingly adorable dorky voice. Not real! And most definitely not a black man in an oversized costume.
All color drained from the teenager's face, and she made a very clear point of turning on her heel and limping away, just barely slow enough not to be considered an all-out run. She had the vague impression, she wasn't sure where from, that he'd follow her if she ran.
Not that he wouldn't follow her anyway. Hallucinations did that, didn't they?

His attention shifted as the girl began to walk away in a near panic. That was interesting. From what Auron saw, the... man (or so he was going to assume) didn't look very threatening, but appearances could be deceiving. He would have to be on his guard, though he would do his best not to show he was.
"I appeared here the same as everyone else," he began, "Care to tell how you know me?" He had an idea, but it was best to make certain.

Just as strange was Auron's reaction to seeing him again. The Guardian had never the friendliest person, but Goofy had expected Auron to at least recognize him. "Gwarsh Auron, don't you remember me? You helped Sora, Donald, and me when we were in the Underworld. We all stopped Hades together. Wait, Hades hasn’t been messin around with your heart again, has he? Is that why you can’t remember me?”

Although it was rather strange. He was curious about this other Auron. What had he gone through in his life? Had he been able to save Braska and Jecht? Did he meet the same fate as he had? And what of the world he had come from? What was its fate? There were so many questions... Questions that he needed to stop dwelling on.
"Unless you have been to Spira or Zanarkand," he finally added.

"No, I can't say I've ever been there. Well gwarsh mister, I'm really sorry for bothering you like this." Goofy felt a little down to be honest, it had been such a relief to finally recognize someone, only to find that it was a case of (understandable) mistaken identity.

He shook his head. "It's fine," he said before standing, "You can get in contact with people with the machina in some cafés in this place."

The knight looked around confused for a moment, before continuing, "Uh, sorry to be a bother, but do ya think you could point me in the direction of one of the cafes?" Goofy gave a sheepish grin.

Nice and helpful? He couldn't say he'd ever heard himself described like that before, at least, not quite out loud. Perhaps Braska had said it once or twice, but never so forthright as Goofy had been. It brought a chuckle out of him and he shook his head with a smirk, "Thanks."
He nodded to the next question and stood, shouldering the broadsword once again and starting to head down the street. He only stopped when he was about a quarter of the way down the street, looking over his shoulder to make sure Goofy was following.

Goofy smiled widely when Auron thanked him, and replied with a happy, "You're welcome!" In this way at least, this Auron was a little nicer than Goofy's friend, although Goofy would never say so. When the Auron in the Underworld had thanked him he'd been a little harsher, although his true meaning had been clear.
When Auron nodded and walked off, Goofy quickly got the impression that he was supposed to follow, and so he faithfully trotted after the swordsman. When Auron turned, presumably to see if Goofy had taken the hint, the knight just smiled and said, "Thanks for helping me like this."

Despite this, he continued to keep the stoic mask on his face, though with the collar and glasses, he wouldn't have needed it to hide whatever could have shown. But habit was habit and it had served him well enough so he saw no reason to rid himself of it now.

So Goofy used a shield, did he? At least, that's what it seemed like from the way he was holding the lid. Hm, an odd choice for a weapon, but if it served its purpose, then it worked well enough.
