Despite better judgment, TJ had decided against going right into the Bryant Park Hotel after her "uncle" had dropped her off there. At least she knew of somewhere safe to go now, when she had to, but she wanted to explore a bit first.

Pietro had mentioned that there were monsters around, and the destruction itself was a clear testament to that. But still she couldn't help but walk with a bit of a skip to her step simply because she could. She was far from coming to terms with the fact that her powers were barely functioning here, but she couldn't deny the fact that she felt better physically than she had in months. As bad off as this reality seemed to be it had a small part of her looking forward to actually maybe helping some people again. To really being able to. It had been a very long time ( ... )

Billy had been to this place before, in the Manhattan he came from, although it wasn't his local so much as the one he went to on the days when he wanted to ... take a detour on the way home from school, and the Avengers' mansion, for whatever reason, wasn't an option - he wasn't the only one who liked to go there, after all, and it was hard to try to be alone with one's thoughts when there were kids running around whooping and pretending to be Iron Man. A comic book store was a lot quieter, and, since it wasn't the one where he was an every-Wednesday regular and he was on first-name terms with the staff, he didn't get engaged in conversation nearly as often. Which was nice, when he just wanted to sulk with his bruises, alternating thinking about why everything sucked and flipping through back issues.

He'd been feeling kind of detour-y lately. And since the mansion didn't exist in this Manhattan, Billy had sort of unconsciously meandered in the direction of the store. He was kind of surprised to find it was still there - but not as ( ... )

Beast Boy had been called many things in his life. It came hand in hand with the way he looked and both positive and negative (though he tended to shrug the negative off a lot since he liked the way he looked) things were said, but he always knew that chicks dug the way he looked. Well, Terra did anyways and to be honest that was all that really mattered. But it was the word that she'd used that made him glance up from his comic and stare at her. 'Skrull'? He'd not heard that one before, and was unsure if she meant it in a good or a bad way. He decided to make an executive decision.

"Uh. Thanks... I guess," he offered, smiling awkwardly before adding, "Whatever that is anyways." There was a short awkward pause between them, only broken by the slight rustling of the comic in his hand before he decided to break it by blurting out, "But I like them so far! The Fantastic Four, I mean. They're pretty sweet and I always dig all the old stuff. The Human Torch is kinda like my friend Hotspot, cept I don't think I've ever seen him actually ( ... )

"Wait, so you're not a skrull?" In TJ's mind the question was immediately followed by 'Then what are you exactly?' but she bit the comment back (though she couldn't quite hide the confused look that crossed her face- her eyebrow arching in disbelief), because that was just plain rude. She would know, seeing as she'd been receiving similar jabs her entire life. The boy could be another mutant whose x-gene had very unfortunately graced him with looks almost identical to skrulls', or he could be something else entirely. Either way, he didn't seem particularly fazed by her assumptions ( ... )

"Uuuh, I'd say I'm pretty cool," Billy said with an awkward shrug, but he was grinning. "I mean, I have a cape? And a really confusing origin story." Which, considering he was inside a comic book store ...

Beast Boy raised an eyebrow slightly as she continued and rocked back in his seat a little. “Uhmm…” he said, before chewing on his lip. “Nope, sorry dude,” he shrugged, offering her a smile. “Just your average human kid - with uh, superpowers. You know. - Hey, what’s a Skrull anyways?”

Attention was directed back to Billy as she spoke to him, his grin widening as she did so, nodding in agreement. “Dude, it’s all about the awesome complexion. But capes are pretty cool. There was this one time that I got to wear my friend Robin’s cape for like, a whole week, and it was sweet,” he trailed off, grinning at the memory, and then fidgeting awkwardly a little. Man, he wished Robin was here. Probably not as much as Starfire did, but…

Shaking his head as if to lift the thoughts from his mind, he raised his hand to his chin and contemplated for a moment, looking Billy up and down and then leaning over to TJ, eyes fixed on Billy. “Hmm, I dunno. Do you think he’s worthy enough to join the exclusive club? I mean a cape and a backstory is pretty ( ... )

"Shapeshifting aliens," TJ replied casually, as if the idea were absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. "They're generally nasty- it's a good thing that you're not one, really. So don't apologize." She grinned.

As Beast Boy spoke to her, TJ took a few moments to act as though she were really giving the idea of allowing Billy into their 'club' serious consideration. "I guess...we could make an exception this one time. It is a pretty nice cape."

"It's a great cape." For all the apparent confidence - for all that, in this Manhattan, there were few enough people, generally speaking, that it took a powerful degree of antisocialness to turn someone away who you'd just run into out in the middle of nowhere (Billy had to pause a second to think about the fact that he'd just thought of somewhere in what'd used to be a busy area of Manhattan that he kind of frequented as the middle of nowhere) - old anxieties died hard and he was really kind of relieved that these guys weren't just telling him to leave.

... And the Skrull kid apparently wasn't a Skrull. And didn't even know what one was. Alternate universes again, Billy guessed ... "I've met a couple of okay Skrulls," he offered. "Like, two and a half. But, yeah, mostly they're kind of ... to be avoided."

The Titan squinted at Billy with a scrutinizing gaze, looking him up and down as he considered the cape, the back story, and what the girl had said. He finally, after what seemed like an eternity (to him anyways), nodded. "I think we can make an exception this once. Welcome to Club Awesome."

Beast Boy blinked as they both explained Skrulls more, and leaned forward, tilting his head again. Shapeshifting aliens. That he apparently looked like. That weren't that nice. Well, he could see why people kept asking him if he was an alien, even if he wasn't. Nope. The result of a virus infected green monkey bite, but not an alien. "I can shapeshift too. But I'm totally not one of these Skrull thinggies," he offered, lifting a hand to scratch the back of his neck and laugh a little nervously. "My name's Beast Boy. What're you guys called?"

Tj quirked an eyebrow in disbelief as Beast Boy further explained himself. So, not only did the kid look almost exactly like your typical skrull, but he was a shapeshifter, too? She wondered if maybe he wasn't a skrull who just didn't know it. The reality he was from didn't seem to have The Fantastic Four, so maybe his Earth hadn't had any contact with skrulls either? Not that it really mattered- it was just weird. And just when she thought she'd seen it all.

"TJ Wagner," She replied with a smile, and then shrugged her shoulders, "Or Nocturne. If you prefer the whole codename shtick."

Billy had to raise an eyebrow, too, at that. Green, pointy ears, and a shapeshifter? There was no part of that that didn't point to Skrull ... But he'd said he was human. Weird.

"Uh, I'm Billy. Or Wiccan, but ... the codename kinda doesn't come up much." He glanced at TJ with the curious expression of someone who was trying very hard not to ask something - and then went ahead and asked it anyway. "Hey, uh - any relation to Nightcrawler, or ... is this more alternate universe screwiness?"

He could tell that they didn't really believe him. He must really look like one of these skrull things, even though he wasn't. He was pretty sure if these Aliens were as notorious as these guys were making them out to be, Starfire would know of them, and would've told him that he looked like one. "My friend Starfire is an alien - she's Tamaranian - and she's never mentioned Skrulls," he shrugged, before smiling a little. "I guess we don't have them in our universe or something - which, by the way, never stops being really weird to say."

Beast Boy blinked as Billy asked TJ a question, sitting back a little and watching, not wanting to interrupt. The name Nightcrawler sounded familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on where he'd heard it from... Anyways, since they both knew about these Skrull aliens, he figured they were from the same universe. Might as well let them 'catch up' or whatever.

"Well, I've never heard mention of Tamaranians," Tj offered in response to Beast Boy, "Anywhere. Your reality must be pretty different from the others. Which, believe it or not, is a concept you really do get used to after a while. Even if it never ceases to surprise you." Surprise you with things like not-skrulls and tamaranians-whatever those were-for example.

She gave Billy a somewhat apologetic smile, "Probably both. Nightcrawler is my father, just probably not your Nightcrawler." Though Billy's reality seemed to have much more in common with her own than Beast Boy's she doubted it was the same- if they were from the same world there was no way they would not know of each other. She'd been on the official x-men team since she was fifteen back home, it was basically public knowledge that she was the daughter of Nightcrawler. And she was at least acquainted with just about every super hero there, but had never heard of a Wiccan before. To officially settle the matter she added, "My dad wears an eyepatch." Her father was the only ( ... )

"Yeah, doesn't sound like the Nightcrawler from my world," Billy replied. "But I've kind of never even met the X-Men, so I might be wrong." He shrugged apologetically. "I guess this is just one big ... alternate dimension confusion party? I've never heard of Tamaranians either. Maybe our dimension - our dimensions," he corrected himself, glancing at TJ, "have different aliens to yours. Or ... maybe you do have Skrulls and they're a peaceful farming planet or something instead of a crazy planet-conquering space empire."
