Characters: Zack and Rikku
Content: Zack can't fall asleep. Rikku decides what he needs is a good, old-fashioned lullaby.
Location: Bryant Park Hotel
Time of Day: Mm, midnight-ish?
Warnings: ... Uh, this might be a little too cute.
It was something like the middle of the night, and New York was not the warmest place to be as winter settled in-especially at nighttime. Rikku stepped out of the apartment she lived in with Tidus, bundled up significantly more than she had in her previous world: mittens and socks and boots, a puffy jacket, a scarf. After living in the desert for the majority of her life (and frequenting mostly tropical places), Rikku was far from accustomed to the chilly temperatures she found in Manhattan.
She nearly ran all the way to the hotel through the dark as she rubbed her arms to keep herself warm. Rikku knew enough that motion would keep her warmer than taking her sweet time meandering through the empty streets-and running might prevent any crab attacks (which, frankly, she didn’t feel like ruining her spotless record with them; she had yet to be bitten, and she would like to keep it that way). However, just in case, she had her twin daggers stuffed in a satchel at her side, and the weight bumping against her thigh was just a reminder that she could use it if the occasion called for it.
If there was anything Rikku was, it wasn’t helpless. She had always had a sort of fierce independence on herself, trusting that she could get the job done without help. Yunie would always need assistance, since she was only so strong, but Rikku could stand up on her own. She was strong and faster than she was strong, and it was a good enough set of traits that she had made mincemeat of fiends that had strayed into her path back home. But she knew that her abilities had dulled and atrophied in her time here, something that bothered her but she supposed she’d deal with when the time arose.
When she finally reached the hotel, Rikku immediately set about getting to Zack’s room (which actually resulted in knocking on a few wrong doors first). When she felt she had finally found the one that was, she stopped to collect her breath in heaving gasps, leaning up against the wall as she waited for him to let her in.
