Yeah, you think I must be kidding you. I don't do this often, so cherish the moment!
I just wanted to jot some things down that happened, last weekend, since I didn't get a chance to do it yet. More like, I've been obsessed with Sims2 to do it. :-p
I have new pictures posted online. They are of our time in the Poconos, Scotland, and some outside pics of our home here in England. So here is the link thing again:
http://community.webshots.com/user/minerple Okay! So last Friday (a week ago, sorry I'm slow on the updating), Juan and I went up to Edinburgh, Scotland, to spend the weekend. It took 7 1/2 hours to drive up there, but boy, was it worth it! It was the first time that I've seen the North Sea. The whole drive was like countryside, sheep, and service stations, and then you hit the "Welcome to Scotland" sign and you get water! It was awesome. It looks so purdy out there on the horizon... Sigh.
Anyways, so we finally get to Edinburgh, and man, it's quite as beautiful as it is historical! The first thing after we checked into the Carlton Hotel (lodging is super expensive, by the way... I hate paying in pounds, I always convert it back to dollars in my head and flip out), we went to dinner at the Royal McGregors, this small family restaurant on the Royal Mile. It was my first time eating genuine Scottish food, and it was FANTASTIC!!! We had haggis for an appetizer, and it was delish (as long as you don't think about what haggis really is. Then we both had crofton chicken, which I have to admit was the best meal I've ever eaten in my life. I need to find the recipe so I can be in heaven everyday. So those Scottish people know what's up with the foodage!
After eating, Juan and I went on the "City of Dead" tour. The tourguide told us about all the nasty torture methods they used to do, and how they tried fighting off those rascally Englanders, before taking us the the main part of the tour: the cemetary!! I can't remember the name of the cemetary right off the top of my head, but supposedly it is one of the most haunted places on de earf. I guess they have some sort of "McKenzie Poltergeist" and have to keep part of the cemetary locked up. People were getting bitten, burned, scratched, bruised, and knocked out. This part of the cemetary is called the Coventar's Prison, where 18,000 people were tortured and killed. But other cool things about the cemetary: T.S. Elliot wrote his cat poems based on the cats he saw in the cemetary, Dickens mistakened Scrounge's cemetary stone to say "mean man" instead of "meal man" and wrote the Christmas Carol, and that Harry Potter woman used the nearby Boarding school as her basis for Hogwart's. I guess Deacon Brodie is also buried in that place too. Know the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Yeah it is based on that dude. He was some sort of nobleman that would sweet talk and work for the rich during the day, and steal their keys so by night he could kill and steal. After the cemetary tour (in the dark, mind you), we went to Deacon Brodie's Tavern. Fun times!
The next day, we were watching Sky News as well were getting ready to head out to the Edinburgh Castle. They REALLY do not like President Bush over here. The coverage of the Hurricane Katrina disaster was very anti-Bush, and it showed a lot of heart wrenching shots. As a sidenote, the base gets Fox News, and the last time I was watching it at the gym, they were positive about the work being done down there. But anyways, the Edinburgh Castle was a fun time. I took some pictures, and we bought the "official souvenir guide" that has better pictures and explanations. The view of the city and beyond was fantastic, and they loaded up a canon and let er rip. After walking all over that for hours, we were looking for a cab to take up to the Hard Rock Cafe and stumbled onto a Scottish wedding. The groom was wearing a kilt and the bride had on this beautiful, intricrately designed gown. I joked that Juan should get a kilt, since he is half-Scottish. He said that now he's been to both of his "homelands" so that is good enough. He saw his family crest and "slogan." He wanted to get it tattooed on his arm. Don't bring it up to him, because I think he forgot about it, okay? Better to let it be forgotten. :-D
Saturday night we hit the bar scene. There were tons of them EVERYWHERE! The first place we went to (well, actually, I was drawn to it) was this bar blasting hip hop music. I thought I could get into my groove there. I ended up chuckling because I'm sorry, but those Scottish people could not dance! This was proven time and again every place we went. We tried absinthe, but there were no green fairies. We saw tons of Hen Night parties (known as bachelorette parties) and if any of my friends get married, I want to hold the bachelorette party over here! It's crazy fun what they do! Haha. So after hopping a million and one places and losing my lighter and cigs (which I don't smoke, Juan does), we went to a fish and chips shop. I was a little drunk, so I kept asking the guy behind the counter and pointing my finger at the glass, "What is this? I'm not from these parts, mister!" He just laughed and told Juan that his "girlfriend was a keeper, so take care of her." Silly.
So yeah, that was basically my Edinburgh story. My "jot" became like a torrential downpour of words. Oops. :-p But hopefully I will update more often, just keep your fingers crossed.
