labours and gifts of love

I wanted to knit my best friend Simon something really nice, something cosy yet not too warm, given that he currently lives in Mexico.  So a jumper was out but maybe a scarf could be worn on a cool day in a hot place.  So I bought some Malabrigo worsted in a gorgeous colour, chocolate brown with robin egg blue accents.  And I started to knit...

for some time...

but there is so much more to do....

just before the scarf epic began I managed to knit some pedicure socks

and then I spent a week in Sweden (without the scarf) where it was very sunny, peaceful, and lots of leisure to knit so I made another pair of socks (from Natural Dye Studio alpaca yarn)

then a colleague on maternity leave said she was bringing the baby in to the office so I quickly knitted

then I started on a cardigan for me

But I realised time was getting on, so I went back to the scarf, and it got longer

or so Muffy thinks.  But not yet long enough..

However, while all this knitting was going on, I was trying to catch some time to spin.  Because on my (special) birthday my partner Mike surprised me with my dream wheel, the Majacraft Rose. What a surprise that was!  he had researched wheels, ( I remember now that he was asking quite a lot of questions about spinning and what wheel I would have if I could, but I really didnt realise why) and ordered the wheel to arrive just on my birthday.  She is a gorgeous wheel, much as I liked the Ashford Traditional I just love having the Rose.  And as much as I love it what I really love is the care and thought that Mike put into choosing the gift for me.

So I am trying to find a few minutes a day to get used to the new spin and get good enough to deserve such a classy wheel!  I will be selling the Ashford Traddy - I really cant justify having two wheels, but I hope that whoever buys her gets the spinning bug as I have!
