Comments: A silly/crazy ficlet that I wrote after listening to Teräsbetoni's Maailma tarvitsee sankareita (the world needs heroes). Really, this is as pointless as it gets. XD For die_shinya's Advent calendar.

“Have you ever thought about that maybe the world needs one hero more? And that perhaps that hero could be closer than you think?”

Die’s words, unexpected as they are, manage to catch Shinya off guard, and he blinks then tilts his head to the side, thinking.

Die looks amused. “You could use one, too, isn’t that so?”

“I don’t know...” Shinya says slowly, and he is not lying. Die shrugs - his answer to just about anything nowadays, Shinya has come to realise, and sometimes he finds himself wanting to roll his eyes at the uselessness of it; but then again, would Die even notice? - and gives him a dazzling smile.

“Love,” he begins, twirling a lock of Shinya’s hair in between his fingers (Shinya shivers unconsciously at the feeling that travels right up to his scalp, and isn’t he a cat to be rubbed behind the ears for Die, anyway?), and continues with what someone could (should? Shinya is ever hesitant about such words) call an air of smugness bordering on arrogance, “As I’m more than capable of taking over the role of being your hero, I wouldn’t find it bothersome to widen the meaning of that role, either.”

Shinya sighs, a gentle gust of breath leaving his lips, and gives a shrug of his own (take that, Die, for I am using your way of communication now, he cannot help thinking) as their eyes meet. “I should think that being a hero for me, should you want to take on such a role, would be more than enough for someone with our lifestyle,” he states calmly, eyes growing distant once thoughts about their upcoming tour enter his head and demand some attention, too.

Die simply grins. “Perhaps I’m a man of more talents than you’re aware of.”

“Or perhaps you’re just being vain now.”

There is no answer, if one does not consider a stuck-out tongue as one (and really, Die should have grown out of that stage long ago, Shinya muses leisurely; or maybe Die is still less of a reasonable adult than Shinya has given him credit for), which leads to Shinya declaring victory over his lover in his mind.

“You’re not doing that bad, though,” he just has to add after a moment of silence, as Die is looking at him in a way that reminds him of Miyu, “if you still want to apply for the position of that hero.”

Die smiles, his confidence unwavering. “Of course not, love. I knew it all along. Now, any wishes for the actions your hero should undertake in?”

Any words Shinya might be about to say get lost in between the wall and Die’s lips on his, though - perhaps he should be proud of being able to arouse his lover’s interest with such a simple act as a delicate touch of his lower lip by his tongue, but truth to be told Shinya only has thoughts left for enjoying the affection.

one-shot, diexshinya
