Last evening there was a free baroque music concert in town. I knew I would really enjoy the
lute music and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the
baroque violin and viola, the
viola da gamba and the
theorbo! (The more dramatic theorbo picture
here gives a better sense of scale. This one is just a bit bigger, maybe, than the one I saw.)
It was a good end to the workweek, and near the end, the singer sang something I feel could be my song, except for the original German and the complex melody. Perhaps I will have to adapt it so I can sing it all the time.
O dear Lord God, wake us up,
so that we will be ready when Your Son comes,
so that we may receive Him with joy, and serve You with a pure heart.
Through Yourself, who is Your dear Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
There were also sad and beautiful songs about girls who were cloistered in convents against their will, along with other melancholy tunes and happy ones about gardens.
