“Ezio?” Leonardo looks up, startled away from his work by the assassino’s sudden appearance. Only it’s not quite so sudden, Ezio’s been standing in the workshop watching him for at least several minutes now before the artist’s taken notice. “What’s wrong, you look as if you’ve been in a brawl.”

The assassin wipes at his bleeding lip with a smirk, offering a quick wink to Leonardo. “And what makes you think I haven’t been?”

“Here, come here.” He gestures to the table, indicating that Ezio should take a seat on its surface and once the assassin does, he leans in to wipe away the blood clinically, examining the wound. When next he opens his mouth, his words are light. “Was this part of your work, or was this simply a spur of the moment kind of battle?”

“I believe it started out as work and then simply became amusement. These guards, they’re often so very easy - ”

Leonardo purses his lips, the gentle touch of rag against Ezio’s face becoming rougher as his composure begins to slip. “I tolerate much from you, Ezio. And I risk even more, allowing you to remain here and - ”

This time it’s Ezio who interrupts. “All you need do is tell me to leave, amico mio, and I will go. You’ve never suggested that this is a problem for you, and I - ”

Leonardo holds up a hand, setting the rag down to the side. “You are on a path that is not one to be shared. Even - especially - with the likes of me. And while I will not begrudge you your mission to avenge your family, I cannot say I appreciate the way you devalue human life without any sign of regret. The guards are only doing their jobs, Ezio. They aren’t all responsible for the death of your family.”

“I - ”

“You know where the bedroom is. It’s yours to use.” With that, he turns away, back to his tinkering to leave a confused Ezio still sitting on the table.
