Summary: The Doctor is missing Donna. Wilf urges him to do something about it.
As he watched Donna from the coffee shop he reflected on what her Grandfather had said...
“You need someone. You need-“ and he’d looked at Donna when he said that. Why don’t you go talk to her?”
“I can’t risk her life!”
“But surely just talking to her wouldn’t make herremember!” Wilf exclaimed.
“I just don’t know Wilf. I just know I can’t take the chance.”
“You know, I’ve often wondered if there wasn’t something you could have done. I think about what happened and what you’ve told me. I have to ask a question. Why did you spend so much time talking to your various companions and dropping them off and not that much time with Donna?”
“It’s just- I knew what was going to happen. And I was afraid to challenge that fear. Believe me, Wolf, I wanted to. But I just didn’t know how to change the outcome and seeing her get so = well, I didn’t want to face it.”
“Yes, but why didn’t you talk to the rest of your team> Maybe one of them could’ve helped. It’s like you just gave up on our girl and I don’t understand that!”
“I wasn’t trying to do that-I never wanted to do that! Do you think I wanted to lose Donna? Even before the metacriss she was amazing. She had a way of grounding me, stopping me from my excesses, making me look at the smaller picture,” the Doctor sighed. “I never wanted to think of the individuals and what was happening to the people. She knew the people, their names their problems. She had a very comforting way about her I miss that. I know Dona’s not exactly a blushing flower; she always told me exactly what I needed to hear. I miss that,” the Doctor’s voice get soft as he watched Donna...I miss Donna”
“Then find a way to get her back, Doctor-and do it quickly! Before she wastes her brilliance, her light, her incredible sense of love and justice.” Wilf lowered his voice. “You have to do it before she makes the biggest mistake of her life. And it will be your mistake as well, Doctor. You don’t want to spend the rest of your life in remorse.”
“No, I don’t. But I can’t risk her life, either.”
“Well you better find a way to do it-and soon.” Wolf stood up to leave and said, “She’s getting married in two days. Time to make your move Doc. It’s now or never”
After Wolf had gone the Doctor thought of all he’s said.
Could he risk everything for Donna? Could he risk Dona’s life?
He had to think of a way to get Donna back.
Or else he would feel remorse for the rest of his life.
Maybe, just maybe, the universe would give him one of those rare good days when nobody died.
