Yalith tossed back her golden curls as she watched the pair dance in the bright hall. Their faces were alight with happiness and relief; they had survived the battle and lived to see another day.
The Enamai’s dark hair was caught up and piled atop her head. Someone had managed to get the rough-and-tumble girl into a gown and, Yalith was displeased to see, she looked beautiful in it. Her head barely reached Torsin’s shoulder. His head was bent so that he could hear whatever she was saying, his eyes focused on hers.
Abruptly, he let out a loud laugh, his head bent back. The sound was of surprised joy and was something that Yalith had never been able to produce out of him. Yalith couldn’t suppress the jealousy that curled in her belly.
Torsin was hers.
