Time to Get Off, Please

May 14, 2008 08:24

The mission this week has been simple; get my projects off the needles. It wasn't that I had a high amount of projects being worked on (there were 5) but that I really just wanted to get everything done before moving on to anything else.

First, I decided to make Little One a burpcloth and some washcloths to go along with the petal bib. The burper is the same as I worked a few years ago. It resembles an easy kitchen dish cloth, but is made longer with tapered ends for over the shoulder.

Pattern: Baby Burper by Connie
Yarn: Lily Sugar'n Cream Ombres & Prints in playtime colorway
Needles: US size 7
Notes/Modifications: Finished dimintions are about 9 x 17.5 inches.

Next came the washcloths. I discovered this pattern quite by accident; a friend on Ravelry added these to her 'to make' list just as I was looking for a baby washcloth pattern. They’re so tiny I was afraid at first that I made them the wrong size. When I measured them, though, I learned that I had actually made them slightly bigger (4.5 inches rather than 4) than the pattern.

Pattern: Sugar Babys: Knitted Washcloths for Baby by Meghan Gray
Yarn: Lily Sugar'n Cream Ombres & Prints in playtime colorway and Lily Sugar'n Cream Solid in red
Needles: US size 7
Notes/Modifications: My guage was way off, so I ended up using size 7 needles rather than size 4. I didn't add the crochet border because I thought they look fine on their own.

So here's the completed set. I'm not fully sure if it is finished. Does this seem to be enough? I keep going back and forth. Ironically as I finished, my family sent out an email saying there will be no baby shower during our get together next month. Opps.

Moving away from the baby stuff, last time I wrote that the diagonal lace scarf was blocking. Here it it all completed.

Pattern: Diagonal Lace Scarf by Helena Frank
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Solid in navy
Needles: US size 7
Notes/Modifications: Would recommend this as a good beginner's step into lacework. Once you see where it's going, the repeats are easy to work.

Not everything has been finished, however. Keeping with the cotton yarn theme, I decided to work on the set of Grr washcloths for a certain someone's birthday present.

Pattern: Grr by Alice Bell (published in Knitty's Summer 2007 issue)
Yarn: Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co., Inc Peaches & Creme Solids in orange (pumpkin?) colorway
Needles: US size 5
Notes/Modifications: Worked the single-strand, larger size. Anny Purls stated that it took her about two hours to make one of these; it took me around four or so. (Why do I always think I can do what she does? Oy.) More than once I kept ending up with one or two fewer stitches and would need to tink back a couple of rows to find my mistake. Despite that, it's a lovely, fun little pattern and I can't wait to start number two. Face to come once I get my hands on some black cotton. :D

Non-pictured efforts from the week; a couple of Warn Up America squares which I started at the beginning of the month. One is now finished, another started, and the third waiting for when I have more Caron SImply Soft leftover to finish it.

Thus ends another installment of WIP Wednesday. Which makes me wonder why I keep calling it that, since I'm showing off FPs, not WIPs. Maybe I should wait a couple of days and make FPs Fridays? Hm.
