Oakland Slam BoB
so first... wow, the party the city put own yesterday was dope! they closed of Telegraph Ave. from 16th to 20th and 18th & 19th from tele to san pab and had 3 stages of live entertainment, a skatepark, art installations - some spewing flames 50 feet in the air, street performers, food food food, and so much more. i only wish i could have seen more of what ws going on outside. no worries though because the show inside was off the hook!
first we had a BoB. we were defending our home turf (this month that was the stage in the 19th st. theater) against the best of teams from SF, Berkeley & San Jose. after a little mix-up the previous night in Berkeley (my bad, i dunno where _that_ came from) we got the nps style rotation right (it's new this year). San Jo seems to like picking "a" so they went first with kristina. Oakland followed with Joyce's "mad love" which intimidated the judges into throwing up a nice high score. berkeley followed with Abe howling and SF sent Chas calling collect for the high score of the round.
in the second round Berkeley led with Danny talking about mexicans in english followed by San Jo's Kat D talking about her sister. Matt added to SF's lead by winning the round with a piece about Oakland which stayed in it with Dahled's if/then.
in the 3rd SF led off with D.dra who scored big but also went over time. Berkeley followed with the only team piece of the evening, a duet between John Mark and Lucky 7. next Oakland's "i" took advantage of SF's slip up and ripped "skin" to bring the home team into first place for the first time. San jo closed out the round with a happy poem from Danny.
'the final rotation started with Oakland who sent Stephen up to rave about "lions". SF followed with Denise who got love from the crowd but not the scores she'd need to bring put her team back on top. David Perez closed it out for San Jose before Lucky 7 closed out the slam "supervillan" style.
ater the smoke cleared and the numbers crunched it was Oakland with yet another win. that makes the towns 2009 squad 2-1 in this years series with wins in SF and at home. sure we took a 3rd in berkeley but that was the closest of the contests and we gotta let the other teams get some too.
