"Academics collect books as effortlessly as ships' hulls collect barnacles. A tenured professor can no more pass by a used book store than an alcoholic can pass by a bar." -- Amanda Cross, 'Death in a Tenured Position'
At the rate I go thru books, I'd need a second income to buy them all new. So, 99% of my reading comes from used book sales and libraries. And sometimes, library used book sales. :)
Hillary's new book came out this past week. The county library system was getting ONE copy, in Westfield, down Route 20 from us. When I tried to put a hold on it, I found that option disabled. Oh, well. I had Friday off for doctor's appointments for myself and my wife... in Westfield. Just for the heck of it, I dropped in to the library, "What Happened" was sitting on the new book rack. I couldn't believe no one had taken it out, so I grabbed it. I also went past the used book sale rack and picked up a few books, priding myself on not picking up the entire shelf of Star Trek novels at $.50 a pop.
Saturday was Summer's End in Buffalo. It included an auction and a used book sale. I picked up every Sherlock Holmes but-not-by-Doyle book they had. I have all the Doyle ones. I guess it's the wise man who knows his weaknesses. :)
