Dear Billboard Renters;
It's Election Day and I'm looking forward to that damn billboard coming down. I realize politics occasionally means playing hardball, however...
1.) Reminding a mostly pro-gay district that your opponent voted in favor of New York's gay marriage proposal is using your campaign chest to get him re-elected. Hey, it's your dime, but if you want to get re-elected, don't assume that everybody else shares your personal bigotries.
2.) Putting up a billboard with the words "You're Next!" in the exact same neighborhood where a teenage killed himself because he could no longer stand being bullied for being gay is in incredibly poor taste. You should lose the election for that reason alone.
3.) If I were your opponent, I would have reported to the police that I 'felt threatened' by the billboard. The police would investigate, interview the billboard owner to determine who rented the billboard, interview the renter, record your statement that it was a reference to someone else losing an election over a gay issue and not a death threat and report back to the original complaintant that it's poorly worded and not an actual threat. In meantime, billboard owners just love to be investigated by the police. What do you suppose your odds of renting that billboard again would be?
