That Was The Weekend That Was

Wednesday -- Several months back, I portrayed Bronson Alcott, the father of Louisa May Alcott at a pre-show at the Fredonia Opera House.  Several people from the Fredonia Festivals committee sought me out and asked me if I would be willing to do it again for Victorian Dazzle Days.  I said yes, not realizing it was the same weekend as Viking Village.  After work, I dropped by the costume place to pick up my costume and find out if they wanted me to do anything specific other than just walk around and be color.  Mary said she hadn't heard anything from Pam and didn't want to release the costume without confirmation.  She took my contact information *again* and promised to forward it to Pam.  That was the last I heard from either of them.

Picked up our lastest Farm to Table box:
2 qts green beans; 1 qt red potatoes; 1 qt fava beans (Hmmm, I wonder if Karen likes Chianti ;D); 1 qt shelling green peas; 1 zucchini; 2 cucumbers; 1 qt cherries; 1 head lettuce; 1 bunch chard; 4 onions; 1 qt black raspberries.

Thursday -- After work, I drove down to Gerry, NY to help the shire unload the trailer and set up camp for Viking Village.  I was still expecting to be at Victorian Dazzle Days over the actual weekend.

Friday -- Took Friday off from work.  Spent the entire day mowing the lawn and cutting down weeds at the former Buffalo house, since the City of Buffalo declared they don't care that it's in court, I'll be the one fined if the work isn't done.

Saturday -- Pam and Mary essentially blew me off.  If I had known that I wasn't going to be working the Victorian festival, I would have started a batch of mead several months back to give away to fair-goers. My wife didn't want to go so I walked the dog, changed into Norse garb, hastily packed a bag and left. Drogo let me play with his forge and I successfully made a mate to the half pair of tongs I had made at War Practice.  I need to make them a little more identical and rivet them together, but that's something I can do at the next blacksmith club meeting.  I spent a lot of time marshalling on the thrown weapons range. I didn't get to throw myself until nearly 6PM.  I can still throw bullseyes with either hand.  An amateur photographer with an expensive camera got a wonderful sequence of shots of me with the axe leaving my hand, spinning in mid-air and hitting the target dead center.  He promised to send me the photos.

Sunday -- My UU group had an informal outdoor ceremony followed by a potluck at Greystone Nature Preserve. My wife and I made Spaghetti Salad as our contribution.  We took Duke because we knew that animals were allowed.  He managed to convince more than a few people that we starve him and table scraps would save his life. :)  I'm still hoping to run an SCA event on their property.  It's 70 gorgeous acres.
