Twilight: The Movie (And Bonus Thanksgiving)

Nov 24, 2008 18:43

Today, my friend insisted we see Twilight.

Now, I have a question. Why is it that people, after taking someone to see a film they really aren't into, are surprised when said person starts laughing hysterically at inappropriate moments?

Hmm.

Anyway. It wasn't actually THAT bad. The colouring was nice. It was very nice, visually. Plotwise, well... it's Twilight. And the acting wasn't too horrible. Robert Pattinson was pretty good, and I liked his portrayal of Edward.

Unfortunately, my complete enjoyment was hampered by this comic:

in which Rahm Emanuel >>>>>>>>> Edward.

My friend didn't appreciate that one very much...

In other news, it's nearly Thanksgiving in the States. Which means having to put up with my grandparents--which is basically a horror story that's getting worse.

For one, my grandmother likes to criticise me. Me and my mother. EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING SHE DOESN'T LIKE. She went off on a tirade about how I use the word "like" too much (I use it less than most kids my age). She recently has been bugging me about getting a boyfriend.

That one doesn't make much sense. I'm only 19, and she has a 9-year-old granddaughter, so why on earth my grandmother wants me to get married and have great-grandchildren for her is beyond me. At least my mother isn't like that--I told her I probably wasn't ever going to have kids, and if for some reason I did, I'd adopt. Her response?

"Whatever."

My grandmother also dislikes the fact that I hate dressing up. HATE IT. I feel dead uncomfortable if I'm not in jeans, and the only reason I wear heels is because I'm under five feet tall. But she seems to think I should love dressing up. It baffles me.

My friend (the one I went to see Twilight with) suggested I tell my grandmother to basically shove off. Which I can't do. I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut if she gets mad at me--but being anything but perfect would set her on my mother and start lecturing my mother about how she's a failure--and I would NEVER do that to her. Also, they're supposedly rich, but just lost half their retirement money in the stock market because my grandfather's an idiot.

This Thanksgiving is going to be a nightmare. Not only have they lost a lot of money, but they're diehard Repubs, and apparently have been unbearable since the election.

FUN TIMES.
