early to bed?

Wednesday: volunteering at the downtown blood donor clinic. The guy who worked the 10-12:30 spot is not going to be there so I agreed to do both shifts. it's really not THAT long, but most volunteer shifts are 2 hours or so.

I do have fun volunteering, giving people cookies and juice and joking that they should most certainly NOT go down to the pub and exchange a 'pint for a pint' but, if they do, they should wear the sticker that says they gave blood today, in case they have an adverse reaction. :)

I almost want to dress up or something. It's my second-last shift there this summer. I was thinking something similar to what the stereotypical diner waitress wears. Pencils in my hair would be a bonus of course. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything from my closet that I could wear to fit that theme. Ah well. Maybe I'll think of something as I'm folding laundry.

It's a lovely quiet evening. The summer air wafts in the window from the darkness outside. The gentle rumbling of far away traffic seems almost apologetic about its intrusion in the soundscape that should be filled with gentle splashing from the creek below. I know that raccoons will snurffle around the apple tree soon, seeking out the treefall that has not been stolen from them by the tidy humans. The sky reveals some of its crystalline treasures, but most are hidden in the cityspilled lights.

My balcony garden waits for me, patiently, like a lover who knows that I will come to bed when I'm ready. I'm coming, little garden. I'm just going to make some herbal tea and set some music to spin.
