Day in a life of a CCA: day 616

Dec 08, 2018 02:11

Looking at the schedule last night, I was assigned to Route 74; my most recent opted route.

No idea as to my start time but knowing that the carrier starts at 6:30am I am thinking this is my start time. The PM supervisor and new station manager agree that I should come in at that time.

At 5:11am I receive a call and text from the AM supervisor to come in at 6:30 or 7am. I do not answer this call... message is left over voicemail and later text. I text a response with a “K” but I want to respond with so much more; holding my tongue.

I come in and find that he changed things... I am to run parcels for Route 11, like I did yesterday. The T6 is casing the route again and I can tell she is not happy about it. I run parcels and, when I return, I am left standing around for about an hour. I try to help the T6 and flag the DPS.

During my wait the AM supervisor congratulated me on my notice of conversion. I told him that his tactic was not appreciated. He said he had no choice. I learned that my CCA colleague also had the same experience as me... he was told he over-reacted.

On delivery, the T6 was sloppy with her flats which made my delivery sloppy. Lucky that mail was light. Since I ran some parcels early, those were also light for delivery. I had time to run some swings twice; we are not supposed to do that but I did.

I receive a call from someone to provide assistance but I question because I do not need assistance. I am told to allow them to help. It is my 7th day on with most long hours... nice to be finished before the sunset.

After I clocked out, I looked at the routes at the Seattle Annex. While there I spoke to a recent convert (gave me excellent information) and another carrier familiar with the routes.

Several carriers from my station gave advice. Most vacant routes are because they are difficult. Since my first long-term opt was on a vacant route that was deemed difficult, I think I can handle it. One carrier said that even if the route was bad, it was HIS route. I would also add that he had a schedule.

I have tomorrow off. I worked 7 days in a row. I turned my ringer off. I took a photo of Monday’s schedule and I am scheduled to come in at 10am. I will mute my phone so, even if the AM supervisor does is early calls/texts, I will ignore. CCAs are not on-call employees. IMO, he has abused this... I am fed up and am not going to accommodate him any longer. I did/said this to the PM supervisor before leaving so it will not be new news.
