Clocked in at 8am.
I was working Route 11. I was told to deliver the larger parcels while someone else cased it. Once I returned, I loaded up the mail and remaining parcels and headed out. First time in a long time I was out delivering before noon.
While delivering I received a call from the AM supervisor to call the station... I am to talk to the station manager and postmaster. I call the station and the new station manager answers. I identify myself. He asks if I am out on the street... Yes. He tells me to keep delivering and not worry. Not even an hour later, AM supervisor calls and texts me that it is URGENT that I return to the station ASAP.
To be honest, I am concerned. I return to the station and the AM supervisor tells me to wait in the break room. While waiting I can hear the Collections team having their AM stand-up... they are starting their day. There is clapping. Then I hear someone call my name... it is the Postmaster. i join them and he hands me a letter and shakes my hand congratulating me on being converted. Apparently, one of the CCAs on the Collection team was also being converted. Our conversion date is December 22nd. Along with a letter, there are 3 pages of open positions at various stations.
After that, I head back out to my route. I thought these conversion letters were mailed out. I guess, since I was delivering parcels, I guessed I missed the announcement made during my station’s stand-up in which one other CCA was also being converted.
I have a bit short of a week to select three positions I prefer. Being higher in the seniority list (
#7) helps my chances of getting one of my picks.
Having this happen during the holiday season makes it difficult to do our research because we are working such long hours. The positions include a dedicated route, T6 (covering 6 routes), or a reserve. These routes have remained vacant for a while meaning they are undesirable but then, I opted on a vacant route that was undesirable, and I ended up enjoying it. The T6 earns more pay than regular carriers and provides variety so you could have some better/worse routes. A reserve is a glorified CCA: you do what management wants you to do but you have your scheduled days off.
Lots to think about over the next couple of days. I would like to keep close so Seattle Annex, Term or Columbia stations are higher on my list.
