I was listening to popular radio today while I was waiting for a train. Some random hits show informed me that one of the new, cool summer songs is "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock. Then they played this song. To me, it sounds pretty much like a mash-up of "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynryd Skynyrd and "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon. Other people have to notice this...really...
I will recognize this mash-up/combining thing as a valid form of art because there are artists that I like who do it. However, I think the general rule is that you have to *add* some value to the song. Writing new lyrics in which you rhyme 'things' with 'things' does not add value. Fail.
~ While we were trying different things/And we were smoking funny things~
Entire lyrics can be found
here.
Also, if there are any other songs in this song, which I didn't recognize you should let me know. I have a feeling that there are tons of samples in here. [I'm pretty sure that you have to pay an artist to sample their song so I have no idea how this is ever going to make money.]
PS. Apparently Lynryd Skynyrd is on tour... (I think you should have to change your name if the majority of your band leaves or dies. ie. Axl Rose can't get a whole new band and still call it Guns n' Roses.)
