Went with Tim, Belle, Steve, Janel, and her nursing pals Kathleen and Sam down to Disney to catch Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D.
First problem: Got a flat no more than five minutes on the highway. Fortunately with Steve's assistance, we got it all switched out in only about five minutes. There's a nice two-inch square flap on it, so I don't think that's something that can just get patched up.
Second problem: We couldn't really decide on where to go for pre-movie dinner, so we tried to coordinate a two-car caravan to the restaurant area across the street from Disney. We decided on Buffalo Wild Wings, and our waiter got stuck working on another table, so we didn't have the quickest, most attentive service. I ran low on beverage pretty fast, so I had to just air out my burning tongue like a dog. We cut it pretty close getting back to Pleasure Island and walked in right as the "put on your 3D glasses now" sign was up on screen.
Third problem: Unlike the already 3D CG trailer and short before the movie, Nightmare's 3D conversion was almost totally receding and lacked much of the "oh, wow, it's coming right out at me" effects that you'd expect. However, the depth effects were pretty damned convicing for a movie originally made almost 15 years ago. Honestly, I think this might have been made as an artistic decision. Perhaps they thought that the screen should perhaps act as a window into the world of Nightmare, and of course, nothing would project in front of that window. Makes sense to me.
Fourth problem: Everybody finished their ice cream really fast while I just savored mine. So I threw a good bit of it away. While we were standing around chatting, there was this chef who seemed kind of drunk who was sort of blathering on his cell phone all of a sudden. He jumped in on our conversation. Fun stuff.
So tomorrow after work, I need to go buy a new tire. And Janel, could you do me the favor of asking Sam and Kat to forward some of their photos of tire-changing/Disney to me?
"This event will sell out, so reserve early?" Perhaps not. I got an invitation to the Playmate Christmas Party at Mako's for tomorrow night. Seeing as I have no school to deal with Thursday, I just might attend. (Though I actually have a pre-production meeting to attend in the afternoon...) Let's see if I can wrangle my roommate to come along. If not, anyone else interested in coming with me? Ticket says it's good for two.
