The Cobra Starship theme song for Snakes on a Plane, "Bring It." Is a catchy little number. And I just now downloaded the music video. Say, that girl looks iconically Swedish... Hey, is that Maja? A little internet query later shows that yes, it's the lead singer of The Sounds. The song also features members of The Academy Is... and Gym Class Heroes; the creator of the band (and by all accounts, the only real member) is from Midtown. Good collection there.
A band you need to keep an ear out for: Love Arcade. Their album hits in August, though it's already leaked out onto the net. I wouldn't judge them based on the two songs on their PureVolume profile, since I wouldn't call that their strongest work (though maybe the most accessible teen-friendly pop). In general, they have a dance-y or overall body-affecting catchy sound, with a hint of hip-hop MC influence, and plenty of aural layers. Lyrics and delivery are witty and fun. The singer has a tendency to sometimes sound like Weird Al, though, which may not necessarily be a good thing. If you know me, one of the greatest crimes in music is if the songs on a band's album all sound the same, and fortunately each of Love Arcade's songs has a personality all its own while still exhibiting the band's signature "sound."
