Jersey Girl
You know what's wrong with the billing on this movie? It lists Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, and Jason Biggs. If it weren't for the marketing power of stars, the real billing should have nixed Tyler and Biggs in favor of George Carlin and Raquel Castro, the little girl. Actually, why isn't Carlin billed? Those two aren't even named on the blurb on the back of the box, only in movie credits at the bottom.
It's been many years since this movie came out, so I don't really remember its marketing. Was it sold as a romantic comedy? Liv Tyler's involvement in the story is pretty peripheral. This is no romantic comedy, unless you're talking about the love of a father for his daughter. Which brought me to a special thought. Do they make movies about parenting? I think that's a pretty untapped genre, and I applaud Kevin Smith for penning a story where I immediately and uniquely know that above anything else, this is a movie about being a parent.
The quality is alright, but after Affleck's character finishes being a jerk a little too far into the movie, its heart really shines through and the film's character makes it notable instead of forgettable.
