The only problem here is that you're buying into the implicit presumption that Christianity collectively woke up one morning and decided homosexuality was intolerable.
I agree with you that it's not our place to judge & condemn; the Bible is very clear on that topic. However, the Bible also lays out very clearly, and in more than one location, that homosexuality is sinful and not to be practiced, and that it must be addressed, where found, just like any other.
If someone isn't a Christian and doesn't want to be held to that, that's their prerogative; but becoming a Christian is supposed to mean you're signing up for the whole nine yards, and that means moving to address sin in your & other believers' lives, in a spirit of love & not of judgment, but moving to address it all the same.
I'd be more than willing to hold all Christians to that standard if they did it themselves. As it is it seems that people pick and choose which parts of the Bible are the Word of God and which parts are best ignored. If people who used "it's in the Bible" as a justification would live their lives according to everything that's "in the Bible" then it would seem less hypocritical to me.
Likewise, an awful lot of Christians *do* make wholehearted and predominantly successful attempts at living their lives according to Biblical principles; they just don't make national headlines. I'll be the first to agree with you that there are also plenty who don't, but when you're castigating such a large group, be careful not to cherry-pick people who reinforce your biases, lest you become the thing you hate. :)
