I work in the Administrative section of the Prosecutor's Office. It is quiet where my office is and we often miss out on the fun or juicy news that you might here in the Criminal Division.
But today, the murder trial up on the 6th floor spilled down on us here on the 3rd floor. There was screaming and name calling and hair pulling and fists thrown and finger nails used as weapons. The sheriff's Deputies were called. That sudden clash is so disturbing and scary. It was two women who are witnesses subpoenaed for the trial. OUR witnesses, no less. Now they want to go to lunch and our APA's don't want to let them out of their sight. Do we have Probable Cause to hold them?
There is a certain element in our society that live with this kind of explosive violence every day. My kids used to talk about fights in the hallways at school. I personally don't see this much, although I bet it happens in this building where people are in the midst of life crises, all the time.
Any way, it takes a bit to get back to filing after you have that kind of excitement.
Deputies are standing over the combatants in our office. And we do have several ex-police officers in our office who are actually armed. Sometimes it is a different world.
