Ruby is turning out to be a most wonderful addition to the Cougarich family! Olive is one of the bestest big sisters a puppy could ever want or have. The quiet, reserved, always demure (and usually quiet) Olive has started taking on the big sister protective roll. If Miss O hears a dog outside, she runs to the futon and stares out the window screen and starts barking, LOUDLY! This is a dog that maybe once a month while we would walk her would let out one half hearted bark at a dog across the street from us and that would be it. Now she's in full protect mode. Not growly snarly mean, just lettin the other canines know that she isn't to be messed with. Ruby has picked up a bad habit from her big sis though.... she licks the floor. I always thought Olive did it because she is a neurotic pooch, but now Ruby does it to mimic her sister. They get along sooo well though.
When we got Ruby 7 weeks ago, she was a smidge over 3 pounds, well now she's up to a whopping 9.4 pounds!!!!! Woohoo!!!! And I was expecting a 65-70 pounder when we first got her. Maybe I'm not feeding her enough. NOT! After some trepidation the first couple weeks we had her, the two of us have bonded so closely. She's daddy's little girl. She gets her last set of shots in one and a half weeks and then she can finally play with the other doggies in the hood and the doggies that come into the store.
After expecting a yellow lab/golden retriever mix, we think we have it figured out that she is a blonde dachshund/beagle mix. She has short chubby legs and huge fat paws with these bendy-in knuckle kind of joints. Something I have never seen before in a dog is a dog that is a contortionist. Last week I thought that she was a piece of Olive's roadkill from being trampled. Her legs were sticking out in the oddest most opposite directions while her head was twisted around the other way to chew on her tail. I tried to get a picture, but of course the second I grabbed for the camera she jumped up for me to play with. I did get a cool pic of her stretched out at the store the other day though.
Our happy family is very very happy :)
I have been taking Ruby to work with me everyday but the past few days I have fallen behind on my chores so I didn't take her with me this morning. Well, guess what?!
castrowoof and
the_barbear (& Joel) stopped in today. DAMN! If only I was psychic! I would have given her a bath and blowed her fur dry to make sure she was presentable. She'll be there lots more in the future though.
