Ikea makes you happy

I think that I must be the only person in London who didn't see the giant elephant this weekend.  With my cold still persisting and my nose still streaming I didn't think it would be a good idea to go and stand in the rain, even for the elephant's sake, so the weekend was mostly spent indoors doing what can only be described as faffing.  I spent a ( Read more... )

Tell me, I am the last person who would laugh! Also I will look into the shared ownership flats because it has to be better than putting up with landlords...

I'm going through all the music on my hard drive, most of which I originally copied from Rick's computer, and some of which I need to delete to make more space for my own music. At the weekend I was listening to the Stone Roses which I thought I'd hate now, but was surprised to find that I still liked. Today we're on to Suede. (Is it you who hates Suede?) The Head Music album hasn't improved with age, its still shit.

I have no problem whatsoever with Suede - I never bought any of their records but I have been known to dance to them in clubs. My old housemate was obsessed with them and in the fan club etc. so I kind of like them just for making him happy!

Re house... dadadreamer May 9 2006, 12:47:57 UTC
That flat looks so cool, I even thought about arranging a viewing just for a laugh, but I know that I wouldn't be able get a mortgage even for half a flat right now on my soon to be 12 hours per week, so I shouldn't torture myself. I can just imagine me and my house plant moving in there though, and I'd turn the boat house into my music studio come party space. I'd still come and visit you in Spondon Road occasionally though...

As I've just said to dansette, provided it was secure enough I would turn it into a music studio and party space, but you could get a mooring nearby and then pop around for tea.

Oh, I'll be doing that anyway. Some friends have a house with a front garden that goes down to the canal, so I'll be turning up there, too...

Have just emailed you with what I think is your address (on webmail at work) - give me a prod if it didn't make it?

Oooh. Masters degrees. After our discussion the other week I think the leicester course looks far better suited to you. It seems to be more vocational - more directly relevant to the practical stuff you're doing. The Goldsmiths course looks a bit of a hotchpotch - and probably too new to have settled down quite how it's going to work...

Oooh. Flats! I think anyone eligible for shared ownership should definatley consider it. I hate to be a party pooper and point out that you still have to get a mortgage for the other 50% + shared ownership rent part. So realistically it is still likely to be slightly more expensive that renting in a shared flat - but you get your own space for that money. Bliss!

Yes I agree with you completely. I did like the idea of the Goldsmiths one, but on closer inspection it doesn't quite work together. I like the Leicester course because you can study up to two modules independently as a taster before committing to the whole of the course, which I would do next academic year. Meanwhile, I'll look for a job where they'd be prepared to sponsor me to do the rest of the course, and hopefully give study leave to do it.

On the subject of Masters, my friend Naz has just been accepted onto the course that Andy was doing at Birkbeck, she said that he seemed to enjoy it so much that she thought she'd look into it for herself and decided to enroll.

After a bit of thought I did realise about the mortgage thing with the flat. Silly me. But still I think it would be cheaper than renting a place like that and you get the capital gains. Not sure why I'm worrying about it now however, seeing as I'm just about to apply for Housing Benefit :-(

yes - it would probably be cheaper than renting such a place. And it would be yours - if you kept up with the payments they wouldn't be able to kick you out - and you can paint it any colour you want and have your own furniture. The particular one in the link is probably, technically, in (Upper) Upper Clapton (given that it's on the Lee/Lea and 15 mins from Stoke N & Stamford Hill) - but they're not going to mention that in an Ad...I'm a terrible cynic, ignore me. ;o)

Yes it is in Clapton, I know exactly where it is, I walk past it all the time, but I like that area, the river and the boats remind me of the midlands countryside.
