Got Real Friends?

This evening I watched The Social Network. I had no interest in the film when it first released, maybe due to my aversion to Facebook. Eventually the Oscar nominations lead me to Netflix it.

For me the film lacks one important ingredient, a character I like, someone to root for. From the beginning Mark Zuckerberg comes off as a disconnected jerk with zero social skills. Given his lack of charm it seemed slightly ironic he would invent a social phenomenon but after futher review it made sense. If the opening scene is any indication of his face to face tact, the internet social experience is perfect. He needs it.

I'm assuming the portrayal is reasonably accurate. And if in fact the story is true to reality it's obvious Zuckerberg stole the basic Facebook idea from the pretentious twins and he screwed his only real friend in the process of building his internet sensation. I felt odd sympathy for the computer science genius, as much as one could feel for the world's youngest billionaire. I wonder if he's made any real friends.

I'll give the film 3 of 5 stars but it didn't make me want to rejoin FB.
