Binge Blogging

Mar 13, 2011 02:14

I recently wrote to a friend that I was in a blogging slump but it had nothing to do with writing. I write something almost every day. I just haven't been posting. I have many incomplete thoughts in draft, some dating back months. They become dated. Done.

To break the logjam I decided to simply post three drafts of recent, as is.  I had to post this one last so you'd know what the flood was all about. I don't usually mass blog. I'm okay.

Speaking of floods. The Japanese disaster is riviting and terrible. The death toll will be massive. I'm watching CNN in the wee hours. Mother Earth is fucking us back and when you mix our nuke technology not even Hollywood could think this up. The End Of Days fruitcakes are having a field day with all the quakes and political upheaval. I have a blog post in me somewhere about this shit. Just not tonight.

Today was yardwork day. We ripped out frost damaged bougainvillea and lantana, pulled many dozens of weeds from the fake creekbed landscaping thingy in the front yard. You think rocks are low maintenance until the weeds start popping up from under them. And the thorns from our lovely desert fauna? Somehow a long thorn made contact with my testicle, through my Levi's and Hanes. Fuck!

That bougainvillia paid a price for violating me. We chopped it 12" from the ground. We tossed it's remains in the back alley. Worry not, it will be back soon with new magenta flowers and long thorns.

I rode my bike to the pub Friday, a day I played planned hookie from the job. My fellow patrons made a joke about Mothra, Hydra and Godzilla. It wasn't an earthquake and sunami. The Japanese government is holding back the monster angle to this disaster.

I'm no PC guy. I laughed. But I felt bad laughing at jokes made in a bar about the unfortunate Japanese people. This does not make the jokes less funny. We were in a bar conversation. If you can't laugh at an off color joke in bar what country do you live in?  They forgot about Rodan.

Tempe is bike friendly city. They make a big deal about it. There are specific roads you want to use with wide bike lanes, links to pedestrian bridges, ASU, bike paths, and every business has bike security if you have a lock. My retro bike is becoming a preferred mode of travel on days off.

On CNN they're discussing the weather in Japan with wind direction and 'radioactivity' as a central theme. The videos coming from the disaster zone are incredible. Our technology gave us real time reporting by regular people with smart phones.

I don't trust the Japanese government in their downplaying of the nuclear meltdown scenario. I think the truth is worse than they report but they believe they can contain the radioactivity. I suspect anyone working on this nuke site is a dead man walking.

And Ghadaffi is still in power.

The world is so busy these days.

life, news, writing
