Dirty Domestic Disputes
Have you ever heard your neighbors arguing loudly and thought about calling the cops? I've never called the police but I suspect the Canadians would consider that option. America is a noisy neighbor.
I read a lot of news online, well, what passes as news these days. Lately what we read is no more than people bitching and moaning ..... not unlike this blog ..... and they're doing it loudly. Sometimes being an American feels like I'm part of that embarrassing family down the street, the oddballs constantly fighting with the cops always at their front door. Not that we're the loudest family on the block. Just down North America Street are the Mexicans having another fiesta.
Attention media morons and right wing hypocrites! Using information from last years tax return, Michelle and Barack Obama are millionaires. What do rich people do for vacation? They don't go camping. I don't recall a recent president, or first family, taking a low budget hiking trip. And I don't believe Motel 6 has a light on for them. Where would the right wingers want Michele to vacation, Gator World? Would that be good enough for Ya'll.
Yes, taxpayers pick up the security tab, but that would be the case no matter where they go and I won't begrudge the first lady a vacation abroad when there are much bigger issues for me to whine about.
It appears to me much of today's news is no more than one group of people complaining about what another group is doing. If you're on my team I'll look the other way regarding your misdeeds. But if you're on the other team, I'll turn everything you say and do into a scandal. The American media looks silly when you click on the news and find this trash. All we do is bicker, like that redneck family next door. I suppose this is a symtom of the 24/7/365 news junkie feeding frenzy where they need more news to fill every second of our voyeuristic lives.
Not that I really care what our neighbors think about our American family affairs but I sometimes wonder how odd we look on our CNN and Fox satellite broadcasts. We're always fighting about something really stupid and someone must play the offended party. Oh the drama! On one hand we're so damn Puritan, then we're out of control yeehaw rednecks on the other. Our family is like a box of chocolates.
Early in the morning Mr. Canadian is picking up the newspaper from his driveway, in a robe, slippers, with a cup of coffee. He glances south to see a discarded 30 pack of Budweiser empties in our driveway. Our beater pick up truck is parked diagonally on the front lawn. The kids toys are strewn about the yard. The property is an eyesore. There's a commotion coming from the other side of our house. "Damn.", The Canadian wonders, "Are they arguing over the fence with the Mexicans, again?" ...... 'sigh'.
What's especially disturbing is the mean spirited nature of our trash news stories. There seems to be a more bigotry injected into the news. So many stories have a component of race I suspect we've gone backwards since our last election. Intolerance is in air, thicker than ever. As much as I would like to point the finger at the Obama bashing right wing, I think there's plenty of blame to go around.
