It's true that we are having a lot of economic problems, but there is not much a president can do about it besides make more jobs, etc. which still isn't much. The economy goes in a cycle, through good and bad. You can only hope it doesn't get worse.
The only reason all of the other countries wanted John Kerry to be president was so that America would have more time to cover other people's asses. It's a good thing that America helps others, but who else does? How often do Canada, England, Japan, or anywhere else with money go and help others in need? Definitely not as much as America does.
And how do Democrats plan to end a war that has been going on for such a long time? You can't talk them out of it. These people come from a corrupt country that tells them that Americans are evil and are the enemy. The hatred has built up so much that they are willing to die in the name of their god to destroy us because they believe that is the right thing to do. It's more deep-rooted than "this is a war that we can stop" because even if we stopped attacking and declared peace, we'd still be under attack from them anyway. It's like Nazism in that if you aren't like them, then they don't like you.
And how do you mean "out of the loop"? We're all one country, here. I'm a Republican because I think many of the conservative ideals are good for the American people. I did used to be a Democrat, so I can understand why they stand for what they do, because I was one too. I still hold some liberal views, but I still call myself a Republican because I lean more towards the right in what I believe.
But the cycle can be broken by any number of factors, which uncorrected, could lead to a downward spiral. I'm not saying that there's going to be another 'Great Depression', but you could certainly find yourself in economically hard times.
How often do Canada, England, Japan, or anywhere else with money go and help others in need? In proportion to America, much, much more. America has more resources to spend, there's no doubt about that, but then you have to compare how much of those actually get put towards helping other countries instead of tearing them down, and therin lies the problem. Sure, America pumps money to fuel the Columbian government, but how does that help the Coumbian people when that money is put towards the drug trade? Sure capitalist American companies provide jobs in third world countries, but at the expense of the liberties and labour of others they get much more out of the deal. Companies that produce genetically engineered seed products help give seed of somewhat better yield, but because it is unusable for replanting the next year farmers are forced to pay ridiculous seed-buying prices anually because they can no longer partake in the age-old tradition of saving leftover seeds. America cancels debts which poor countries owe to it, but other civilized nations (including Canada) have done the same. Countries like Canada who have paltry militaries by comparison have hundreds, if not thousands of peace-keepers stationed around the world at any given time. The fact of the matter is that although it may seem that America does so much, in reality it does little and is progressively doing less and less. A millionaire can easily give a poor man a hundred thousand dollars and seem generous, but in proportion a man with a hundred thousand dollars who gives up only ten thousand contributes an equal 10% of his wealth.
You can't talk them out of it? You mean you can't talk America out of it. Last time I checked America had been attacked by an extremist terrorist group, and then in turn used that as an excuse to attack an entire nation who in no way, shape, or form had contributed. Besides, what is so different about a terrorist who misconstrues the principles of his faith to die fighting an American, than an American soldier who misconstrues the principles of Christianity and life, libery, and happiness to be a martyr for his own cause? Like many others, you seem to still be under the misguided impression that jihad=holy war. Jihad means defence of the faith, and has wrongly been misconstued by terrorists. Most Muslims have high regard for Christianity and give Jesus the same PBUH (peace be upon him) honour that they reserve for Muhammed. The war on Iraq does not only attack terrorists, it also destroys the lives and infrastructure of innocent citizens. Here's another fact for you: people in Iraq live in more fear now than they ever did under Hussein. I'm not saying that the Democrats if elected would be able to immediately pull out of the war, which would be both impossible as well as unjust because it would do nothing to fix the mess, but at least the Democrats are not the ones using fear tactics in their election campaigns that perpetuate the war (which both drains American treasuries and destroys the lives of innocent people). There's a lot of backwards thinking in the U.S. concerning the people of the Middle East and their religion. You want a parallel to Nazism? Try comparing the burning of temples in America after September 11 to the destruction of Jewish havens in Kristallnacht...
...Just because you're "all one country" does not mean that each segment is equally threatened. If someone is going to hit you, do you protect your elbows, or would rather protect your face? The coastal states and northen states that mostly voted for Kerry are under greater threat of attack than the inner southern states. Thus it must follow that states who are hardly at all threatened by strategic terrorist attack voted for the man who was perpetuating fear tactics, and that those who have the greater reson to worry believed that they would be better protected if Kerry was president.
This election wasn't about Republican conservatism vs. Democratic liberalism: it was about Bush, and whether people could stomach another "four more years" (as the Republican chant goes). That portion of America who voted may think so, but I'm afriad the rest of the world has to disagree.
