I could've sworn you were my older brother there for a moment. He said the exact same thing to me a year ago (without the "osamabots" bit). But one should know that having a different opinion than the president or the hardcore left is not moronic.
And I don't consider George Bush a terrible dictator, no, that would be giving him too much credit.
As for the democrat thing, don't generalize. Not all democrats were enthusiastic about Kerry, myself included. I wanted the guy from New Hampshire... Sadly, knowing the way voting goes in our nation, one has no choice but to vote for the creep, lest one rewards a vote to the president. -_-;
I find your last statement ironic becuase I used to believe the opposite, democrats are more realistic and republicans more idealistic. But after many studies I realized it's not that simple. (is it ever?)
Republicans are idealistic in that they're conservative and wish to maintain the status quo. They tend to be more concerned with religion and traditional values along with having more concern with the economy. They tend to be people of the upper class and are more united and organized. Because they tend to have more wealth they are more concerned with politics and so make up the majority of voters in elections. They are "realistic" in believing that man is inherintly evil. And so tend to be against welfare and social programs because they think if man wants to, he can get out of being poor by his own efforts and stop being lazy. Also big on capitalism.
Democrats are idealistic in that they believe man is inherintly good, but bad circumstances make man do bad things. They tend to be of the lower and middle working classes. So democrats tend to be for welfare and other social programs. They tend to like socialism's traits, but being that we're in America, the leading country for capitalism, things don't work out their way. Democrats are liberal in that they don't believe in the status quo or "traditional" values and tend to wish for change/improvement.
Sure, these two things are generalizations, but they're made by sociologists, so if you wanna say they're full of crap, be my guest.
I will go ahead now and say that there are nice republicans, I have several friends who are and do express themselves well and I respect highly. Sadly none of those nice republicans are in my family. So I decided to register as a democrat as a result of my disgust for my older brothers, one of them who said that lovely statement to me about moving to Canada.
As if I didn't have a right to live here if my belief system was different. How arrogant.
Anyhow, this is Dacoolchic's journal, I think she has a right to complain and insult whoever she wants on it. If you disagree with her, that's perfectly well. Go write about it on your livejournal! But to be writing insulting remarks aimed at people who she obviously sympathizes with in her LJ...come on, now. There's just something wrong about that. *shakes head*
