so i had this crazy dream last night. those of you who dont like to hear about dreams or honestly dont care, dont read this entry. mostly, i dont tell others about my dreams because i think people wouldnt care, but this one seemed to be thick with meaning and a message and when i woke up i remembered it all very clearly and felt enlightened. all comments appreciated, unless its like "fuck you, you suck." that will not be appreciated. the dream:
i'm sitting in class on my first day of college. i'm in a biology class for some reason, and michael moore is the professor. so we start in on our project, which i guess is to grow these water flies. we have a tank and we have to add stuff to the tank and the flies reproduce, creating generation after generation of offspring. this all happens very quickly. each time they have a generation, a layer of this thick, jelly-like stuff appears in the tank, and each layer is a different shade of grey. i have to stick my hands deep into the jelly for the project, and when i pull my hands out they are covered in these black specs, flies i'm told. i was them off in a sink that seems to be too small for my hands and then professor moore starts to tell us about the required reading for his class, odd since its a biology class, not english. the blackboard becomes very dark and he takes out a flashlight. he shines his light on various parts the board, illuminating a picture with the title of a book above it. he shines it around, showing us various titles and then comes upon one called "alien" with a picture of the stereotypical alien head, only this aliens head is brown and very textured, and it has obvious lips. i ask what the book is about and moore says "cant you tell by the title?" then he says he has a device that will give us the overall meaning of the book by epiphany and shows us how it works. you place it on your forehead and your vision switches from the room to a picture with a sound that will portray the meaning of the book to you and make it feel like an epiphany. so my friend does it for the "alien" book and says "wow". i ask him to give it to me and he says, "its not what you think. its not at all what you think". i take it from him and place it on my forehead, and all of a sudden i'm looking at the sky. there are birds and clouds everywhere and the birds are frozen in a circular formation over the sun. in the background there is this music, like a chorus singing "ah" with descending chords. i feel this epiphany, just like i was told i would, and the thing i feel is nothing like what i thought it would be. i thought the book would be about aliens, which i guess it was, but when i was looking at the scene i said "its not about them being from another planet. its not about them being aliens at all. its about us. its about us and how we judge them based on our own standards because we're scared. its not fair that we do that, they just want to exist the way we exist and we judge them for it. its not about them being aliens at all."
and then i woke up.
so that dream was very crazy. i woke up feeling very enlightened and like great knowledge had been bestowed upon me. i've already started analyzing it, but the layers of flies thing (gross i know) seems to be significant, as does the alien and michael moore. the alien is an obvious symbol. can anyone guess what it is? so i know some of you out there love to analyze dreams, so here is a crazy one for you. take your best shot, i'd love to hear any comments.
