I agree that this is unacceptable. I've bought CDs from artists before that were burned copies, but never paid more than about $2 and knew beforehand what I was getting -- I would send it back and ask for my money back, and if they ask why explain that you didn't realize that you were paying full price for a burned cd.
blah. i hate being confrontational. dan gave me a pretty complainy letter draft. since it's my transaction but more his friend, i ... guess i will edit the letter a little.
hrmmmmm, yes. should i email the Producer or the Artist with my intent? or would you just send it back with a note? it took almost a month to get the first transaction done, so .... i don't know how much i would trust that they would be speedy with this.
I think this is more of a principal thing -- not letting them get away with it. You don't have to be confrontational, just politely state that you are returning it for a refund. I would address it to both, because to me, anyone who let their name be on it is responsible for it. The thing about burned cd's, too, is that they don't universally work on all cd players.
This reminds me of when Jennifer and I ordered what we thought was the real Adobe Acrobat on EBay one time, and the seller sent us a homemade copy instead! It totally creeped me out to get that. We returned it right away to her and she pretended to be all shocked.
well, the CD booklet contained a handwritten note from the Artist explaining the disc was created using BlahBlahBlah software, and should you encounter a defect, please contact him. I just don't know if i should put aside our appal and simply mention the CD is subpar. seems like a nervy business practice, but the music is good!
Definitely send it back. If someone sent one of our cd's back, I wouldn't think twice about sending a replacement. I don't know why anyone would ship out a scratched disk, let alone for a $1 discount.
yeah, it's weird. i'm not sure how much of the $29 was intended to cover shipping & handling, but it's still a lot of pay for a burned disc that has a skip in it.
do you think i should contact the Producer, who shipped out the discs to me, or the Artist, from whom there is a note in the burned disc cover explaining it's a copy?
